About Fly Exhibition Center
Fly is an urban art experience center located in Jiangyin, China, on the edge of the Yangtze River. The building is arranged around a landscape pool that brings river water into the setting. Cantilevered structures are used, so no column grid is visible from the outside. Two large blocks resemble a pair of wings above the water. The exterior is made of white and gray aluminum panels with beige marble. Turning and interwoven volumes soften the boundary between inner and outer space. A quiet path crosses the water and links the display areas. The center covers 21527 square feet.
The Fly Exhibition Center by Kris Lin represents a compelling contribution to contemporary architectural discourse, embodying the aspirations of parametric and biomimetic design philosophies that emerged prominently in the early twenty-first century as digital fabrication technologies enabled unprecedented formal complexity. The structure appears to engage directly with the metaphorical possibilities of flight, its folded aluminum surfaces suggesting the arrested motion of wings in mid-gesture, perhaps referencing both the literal aviation associations of its program and the broader symbolic resonance of transcendence and aspiration that flight has carried across human cultures. The technical achievement evident in the execution suggests sophisticated computational design processes integrated with advanced fabrication methodologies, the tessellated cladding panels requiring precise coordination between parametric modeling and material assembly to achieve the seamless planar transitions visible across the building envelope. Compositionally, the work demonstrates remarkable command of architectural scale, its horizontal extension anchoring it to the landscape while vertical articulations and dramatic cantilevers assert presence against the urban backdrop. The chromatic restraint of the metallic palette allows formal complexity to read clearly, while strategic glazing introduces moments of transparency that promise interior revelation without compromising the sculptural integrity of the exterior shell. One might observe how the building negotiates between technological futurism and organic reference, its angular geometries softened by the suggestion of natural movement patterns. The surrounding landscape treatment enhances this dialogue, verdant lawns providing both visual contrast and experiential approach sequences that prepare visitors for encounter with the architectural object. How might this interplay between the precisely machined and the naturally grown invite reflection on the evolving relationships between human fabrication and environmental context in contemporary architectural practice?

- Unique Properties
- The project is located at Jiangyin city on the edge of the Yangtze River. We use the advantages of geographical location to create an urban art experience center, introducing the natural elements of the Yangtze River water into the pool landscape. The building is built around a landscape pool, the building looks like a pair of flying wings. It is hoped that it will represent the development and take off of the city in the Yangtze River basin. Therefore, it is named as the Flying.

- Production Technology
- In this project we used cantilevered structures in the structure, and no column net is seen from the appearance. Looks like a pair of flying wings. The exterior material is made of white and gray aluminum plate with beige marble. Through the turning and interweaving of the body block, the space-sensing air permeability is formed, which weakens the boundary between the inner and outer space, and at the same time creates a different functional space.
- Design Challenge
- Our biggest challenge is the building looks like a pair of flying wings. The cantilever structure is adopted, and no column net is seen from the appearance. The exterior material is made of white and gray aluminum plate with beige marble. Through the turning and interweaving of the body block, the space-sensing air permeability is formed, which weakens the boundary between the inner and outer space, and at the same time creates a different functional space.
- Project Duration
- The project started in April 2018 in Jiangyin,China and finished in August 2019 in Jiangyin,China and was exhibited in Jiangyin,China in August 2019
- Operation Flow
- We wanted the building to look like it was flying over the water. Two large building blocks were designed, we used cantilevered structures in the structure, and no column net is seen from the appearance. The exterior material is made of white and gray aluminum plate with beige marble. The center of the waterscape is designed with a quiet path that runs through the multi functional display experience area.
- Research
- The project is located at Jiangyin city, the center of the Yangtze River Delta urban economic planning zone.Jiangyin is located on the edge of the Yangtze River. The Yangtze River Delta is the largest economic development planning zone in East China. The Yangtze River is China's largest river, and it has nurtured the advanced Yangtze River Economic Belt. Designers use the advantages of geographical location to create an urban art experience center.
- Inspiration
- The project is located at Jiangyin city, the center of the Yangtze River Delta urban economic planning zone.We want to create an urban art experience center. My design inspiration came from flying over the water .It is hoped that it will represent the development and take off of the city in the Yangtze River basin, and lead the Jiangyin citizens to witness the leap of the city.
