About CR Land Shijiazhuang MiXC Mixed Use

CR Land Shijiazhuang MiXC is a mixed-use development in Shijiazhuang, China. The complex combines a retail podium with office and apartment towers. A large setback at the northwest corner of the site creates an urban plaza at street level and a sunken plaza linked to the subway. The transfer hall of Metro Lines 1 and 3 connects to the two basement levels of the shopping mall through the sunken plaza and a pedestrian walkway. Mall entrances are placed at three street corners. The entrance facade uses double glazed curtain walls with a special lighting design.

Positioned within the evolving discourse of contemporary mixed-use architecture, CR Land Shijiazhuang MiXC Mixed Use by Aico Ltd exemplifies the sophisticated integration of commercial program with distinctive architectural identity that defines twenty-first-century urban development. The design demonstrates a masterful command of horizontal rhythm, employing continuous bands of warm-toned cladding that wrap the curvilinear podium volume in a manner evocative of geological strata or the flowing lines of streamlined modernism. This formal strategy creates a unified visual identity while accommodating the diverse programmatic requirements of retail, entertainment, and commercial functions within. The juxtaposition of the sinuously curved western facade against the crystalline diamond-pattern glazing of the eastern volume reveals a thoughtful compositional dialogue between organic fluidity and geometric precision. The material palette demonstrates careful calibration between accessibility and refinement, with the warm stone-like surfaces suggesting permanence and quality while the generous glazing promises transparency and connection to interior life. The photograph captures the building during the evocative blue hour transition, when artificial illumination begins to animate the interior spaces while natural twilight still softens the architectural silhouette. This temporal moment reveals the building's capacity to transform through the diurnal cycle, suggesting a dynamic relationship with its urban context. The street-level activation, evidenced by the blur of passing vehicles, confirms the building's success in generating urban vitality. The towers rising behind establish vertical counterpoint to the horizontal emphasis of the podium, creating a layered urban composition that mediates between human scale at ground level and metropolitan scale above. Viewers might consider how architecture can simultaneously anchor urban identity while remaining responsive to the flows of contemporary life.

Unique Properties
To create a more inviting gesture, a large setback was introduced at northwest corner of the site, accommodating a grand urban plaza on street level and a featured sunken plaza connected to the subway. The setback also gives the building podium an over 300 meters long continuous urban facade, projecting a powerful architectural image over the busy city intersection. The transfer hall of Metro Line 1 and 3 is seamlessly connected to B1 and B2 levels of the shopping mall via sunken plaza and pedestrian walkway. A blend of natural sunlight, interactive landscape and art installations greatly enhance the quality of space and passenger experiences. As a mixed-use development, the retail podium is the center piece and at the same time acting like a catalyst for office and apartment towers. The formal entrances to the office towers are located along the city’s financial street, while the apartments’ lobbies are facing a much quieter courtyard space with more privacy. We dedicated all three major street corners for shopping mall entrances to take advantage of the heavy foot traffic. The entrance facade of the mall features exquisite use of double glazed curtain walls with special lighting design to give it a very trendy and dynamic look. The interior of the mall is kept simple and elegant to bring together high end retail, anchor and specialty stores, F&B and additional social functions for a unique experience the city never had before.

Design Challenge
The project is located at the intersection of two bustling city streets where Metro Line 1 and 3 also transfer underground. The extremely high development density with a plot ratio over 10 and the building height restricted by aviation regulation demands a very innovative and efficient design solution to achieve the project brief.
Project Duration
The project started in May 2012 and finished in October 2018 in Shijiazhuang, China.
Operation Flow
The transfer hall of Metro Line 1 and 3 is seamlessly connected to B1 and B2 levels of the shopping mall via sunken plaza and pedestrian walkway. A blend of natural sunlight, interactive landscape and art installations greatly enhance the quality of space and passenger experiences. We dedicated all three major street corners for shopping mall entrances to take advantage of the heavy foot traffic. As a mini-city, the projects becomes the new center of the city and one of the best transit oriented developments in the region.
Inspiration
The extremely high development density and the building height restriction demands a very innovative and efficient design solution to achieve the project brief. The advantage of prime location, direct access to transit, together with the grand and mixed-use program gives this project the potential to become the most influential urban complex in the city of Shijiazhuang.
