About BD's Hype Tribe Office Design
BD's Hype Tribe is an office interior located on two floors of a building in Singapore. The design unites several business units within one shared community space. A reception area, co-working cafe zones and work neighbourhoods are linked by a continuous visual journey. One cafe area is inspired by an alfresco setting and offers a calm and comfortable environment. Suspended acoustic panels create a sense of flow above the space. Wood and green planting are combined to bring biophilic elements indoors. A desk sharing approach supports efficient use of the floor plate.
DB&B Pte Ltd's BD's Hype Tribe Office Design emerges from contemporary workplace design discourse that increasingly recognizes the profound relationship between spatial environment and human creativity, belonging to a generation of projects that challenge conventional corporate aesthetics through the integration of biophilic principles, hospitality-influenced warmth, and digitally fabricated sculptural elements. The design demonstrates exceptional compositional intelligence through its deployment of a spectacular parametric timber bench as both functional seating and spatial organizer, this undulating form establishing visual rhythm while creating intimate zones within the larger open-plan environment. Technical accomplishment manifests in the precision of laminated wood construction, where individual ribs achieve complex three-dimensional curvature through advanced fabrication processes, each element contributing to a whole that suggests natural phenomena such as sand dunes, ocean waves, or geological striations. The suspended elliptical structure hovering at center functions as architectural threshold, its warm illumination and cascade of pendant lights transforming what might otherwise read as corporate presentation space into something approaching theatrical stage or intimate gathering pavilion. Biophilic elements receive thoughtful integration through moss-filled columns that introduce living presence without maintenance demands, their verdant surfaces creating visual anchors that ground the technological sophistication in natural reference. The ceiling treatment of overlapping curved baffles demonstrates how acoustic necessity can transcend pure function to become compositional element, their flowing forms echoing the organic language established below while softening the industrial character of exposed services above. Material relationships throughout reveal careful consideration of tactile experience and visual warmth, from the honeyed timber tones that dominate to the cool counterpoint of polished concrete and brushed metal accents. Natural light floods the space through generous glazing, connecting occupants to urban context while providing the circadian variation essential to wellbeing. Viewers might contemplate how such environments reshape understanding of workplace as purely functional container, instead proposing space as active participant in creative endeavor.

- Unique Properties
- A strong visual and immersive design that fuels different experiences throughout this space. From the inspiration of an Alfresco cafe that offers an ambient and cozy environment with the lingering aroma of freshly-brewed coffee to the dynamism created by the suspended acoustic panels which emulates robust flow or current. - Design Challenge
- Being on a large floorplate on two separate levels, the design team focused on binding the various journeys that connected the various spaces from the main reception area to the co-working café areas and also ensuring ‘neighbourhooding’ zoning being applied at the work zones. All these spaces are designed towards supporting seamless collaboration and driving innovative spirit.
- Project Duration
- The project started in September 2019, and was completed in March 2020 at 2 International Business Park Road, The Strategy, Singapore.
- Research
- The results of an earlier workplace study suggested that BD opt for an efficient desk sharing approach. The design team adopted this recommendation and proceeded with further development of the overall space planning and design development for BD. Serving as a regional headquarters for multiple business units, DB&B’s design team conducted numerous exploratory workshops with key stakeholders to fully understand the employee requirements such as meeting, training, storage and filing amongst others.
Once data collection is completed, the space planning began. With BD occupying levels 7 and 8 at The Strategy, it was imperative to render full vision of the proposed stacking plan and zoning to BD to clearly show department adjacencies and ultimately, mapping the various experiential journeys. - Inspiration
- Inspired by Becton Dickinson’s (‘BD’) consolidation exercise of key business units into one single floorplate, we knew we wanted to enable a blended community space, for the various tribes of BD to come together, unite and promote cohesions with one common language. This common language was articulated with a strong design language that formed the narrative for the different experiential journeys within the space.
