About Li Beer Packaging

Li is a gift packaging design for beer. The glass bottle takes its shape from the Shuang-Er-Ni-Yu pottery bottle unearthed at the Yangshao cultural site. Carvings on the surface resemble traditional water ripples and fish stripes. An embossing technique is applied to the package, so the texture can be felt by touch. Elegant images and archaic fonts add a sense of history. The package is opened by tearing off the top seal. The design celebrates the early history of beer brewing in China and the traditional Chinese recipe used for the beer inside.

Li Beer Packaging by China Resources Snow Breweries represents an exceptional achievement in contemporary beverage vessel design, one that synthesizes ancestral decorative vocabularies with sophisticated modern manufacturing capabilities to produce an object of remarkable cultural resonance and tactile appeal; the work emerges from a design philosophy that privileges the container itself as primary brand communicator, eschewing conventional paper labeling in favor of permanent structural ornamentation that transforms functional packaging into collectible artifact; the elaborate embossed program adorning the glass surface draws from a rich visual lexicon associated with ancient ceremonial vessels, particularly bronze ritual objects whose geometric surface treatments served both decorative and symbolic protective functions across millennia of continuous cultural tradition; technically the execution demonstrates extraordinary precision in glass molding, with each chevron angle, each concentric ring, and each curved flourish rendered with consistency that speaks to advanced industrial craft; the chromatic strategy operates with admirable restraint, allowing the natural amber tonality of the glass material to establish warmth and premium positioning while the gold foil capsule provides hierarchical accent without chromatic competition; compositionally the bottle's silhouette achieves visual stability through its weighted base and broad shoulder while the elongated neck introduces vertical aspiration and elegant proportion; thematically the work invites contemplation of continuity between ancient craft traditions and contemporary design practice, suggesting that premium positioning in the present moment may be most authentically achieved through meaningful connection to ancestral making practices; viewers might consider how the tactile invitation of the embossed surface transforms the act of holding and pouring into a ritualized gesture of cultural participation and sensory pleasure.

Research
The recipe is derived from the archaeological findings about Mijiaya historic site in Shaanxi province, which belongs to Yangshao culture. On the pottery around 5,400 years ago, the fermentation trace of barley and other cereals were detected, serving as the earliest record of beer brewing in ancient times. It was in the Gangu county, Xiping historic site, which also belongs to Yaoshao culture, that the Shuang-Er-Ni-Yu pattern pottery bottle was unearthed.
Inspiration
The packaging design is inspired by the ancient liquor-making techniques discovered in Yangshao cultural site. The shape of the bottle draws on the Shuang-Er-Ni-Yu pattern pottery bottle unearthed in the site and the carvings on the bottle resemble traditional water ripples and fish stripes
