About Scotsman Electric Scooter
Scotsman is an electric scooter designed for private and efficient urban transport. The entire frame is 3D printed in a single pass from thermoplastic carbon fiber composite, including the handlebar, stem, fork, baseboard, suspension and battery bay. A carbon fiber leaf spring absorbs shocks without bulky parts or external cables. Scotsman weighs 20 kilograms and reaches a maximum range of 70 kilometers. An LCD panel shows battery level, speed, riding mode and navigation. The light, integrated frame joins full size power with easy carrying.
Arevo's Scotsman Electric Scooter emerges from a distinguished lineage of transportation design that privileges both aesthetic refinement and functional innovation, participating in the broader contemporary movement toward sustainable personal mobility solutions that honor sculptural integrity alongside engineering excellence. The work demonstrates remarkable compositional achievement in its integration of continuous flowing forms, where the carbon fiber stem executes an elegant arc from wheel to handlebar that suggests both organic growth patterns and the precision of aerospace engineering. The chromatic selection of deep teal green for the primary structural element speaks to a sophisticated understanding of color psychology in product design, selecting a hue that simultaneously communicates technological advancement, environmental consciousness, and premium positioning without recourse to conventional automotive metallics or stark utilitarian treatments. The generous standing platform, with its compound-curved navy cushioning, reveals careful consideration of human factors and rider comfort, suggesting extended use scenarios beyond mere utilitarian transportation. Technical merit appears throughout the visible construction, from the seamless integration of the illuminated strip along the stem front—which promises visibility and safety in low-light conditions—to the considered proportions that balance visual stability with apparent agility. The environmental staging within raw concrete architectural forms creates meaningful dialogue between the organic curves of the designed object and the brutalist geometric language of contemporary built environments, suggesting urban contexts where such vehicles find natural purpose. This presentation invites contemplation of how transportation design might serve not merely functional locomotion but also aesthetic pleasure and environmental stewardship, encouraging viewers to consider the evolving relationship between mobility, sustainability, and the designed objects that mediate our movement through shared spaces.

- Unique Properties
- Scotsman is the first scooter with a frame 3D printed from carbon fiber composite, resulting in a strong, light, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing structure. Scotsman pushes the boundary of what can be fit in a scooter: a carbon fiber leaf spring shock absorption system and smart features are integrated for a smooth and convenient ride without bulky systems or external cables. Thanks to a lighter, integrated frame, Scotsman can offer longer range, higher uphill power (than scooters with the same motors and battery) while remaining robust and easy to carry.

- Production Technology
- Scotsman’s entire frame is crafted from thermoplastic carbon fiber composite, including its handlebar, stem, fork, baseboard, suspension, battery bay, and other support structures. As a result, Scotsman is a large, full sized scooter with the power of high performance electric vehicles, yet is as light and portable as smaller, lower power scooters. The frame is 3D printed in a single pass for a streamlined design, but also designed for a seamless integration with the smart features.
- Design Challenge
- Each of Scotsman’s elements were thoughtfully designed to integrate seamlessly with each other, resulting in a cohesive, streamlined design. One of the biggest challenges was to define the appealing elements, such as the curve in the back wheel, the integrated light, and the creases on the handlebar, each of which required a balance between feasibility, aesthetics, and function. These features are all unique to Scotsman’s 3D printing manufacturing process.
- Project Duration
- Scotsman was launched through a 3 month crowdfunding campaign that began in May of 2021 and completed in August of 2021 with 600,000 US dollars raised.
- Operation Flow
- Scotsman can auto lock and unlock when its owner approaches or walks away, thanks to a Bluetooth connection to the Scotsman app. A handlebar mounted ultra wide angle 1080p dashcam can capture photos mid ride or couple with GPS to help an owner to locate their scooter. The LCD panel displays battery level, speed, riding mode, turn by turn navigation, distance traveled, and distance remaining. The app also lets an owner set maximum speed and select a riding mode.
- Research
- The existing escooter market is dominated by familiar, existing components. When we developed the Scotsman, we invested heavily into making all of its components feel integrated. The result is a scooter without compromise: one with a long range that is also lightweight and fast; a robust ride that is also aesthetically pleasing, foldable and easy to carry.
- Inspiration
- The global pandemic sent people searching for private, convenient, and environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Yet most existing scooters are either large and bulky or light and flimsy, limited by weak power and short range. Scotsman provided the elusive answer: a green mode of transportation that does not compromise power, range, portability or aesthetics.
