About Safety Pin Ring
Safety Pin is a ring shaped as a fully functional safety pin. The ring sits over three of the wearer's fingers and can also be used as a brooch, pendant or pin. Safety Pin is made of 18ct yellow gold and set with multicoloured gemstones of 2.09 carats, with a total weight of 14.40 grams. A 3D model was prepared, then a wax prototype was printed and cast in gold. The cast was finished by hand and polished. The gemstones were fixed in place, and the parts were then joined. The design aims to remain lightweight, wearable and playful.
Margarita Prysiazhniuk's Safety Pin Ring represents a distinguished contribution to contemporary jewelry design that transforms a recognizable utilitarian object into an expression of precious materiality and chromatic celebration. The work participates in an established artistic tradition of elevating mundane forms through material transubstantiation, wherein the humble becomes extraordinary through the application of skilled craftsmanship and luxurious materials. The technical achievement evident in the channel-set rainbow gradient demonstrates sophisticated lapidary and metalworking expertise, with each square-cut gemstone precisely fitted to create an uninterrupted color progression from verdant greens through warm yellows and oranges to cool violets and blues. This spectral arrangement suggests connections to light theory and the physics of prismatic dispersion while simultaneously evoking themes of diversity, unity, and celebration. The faithful retention of the safety pin's functional architecture, including the characteristic double-coil spring mechanism and protective clasp, honors the original design's ingenious engineering while recontextualizing it as an object of adornment and contemplation. The warm yellow gold setting provides material coherence and establishes the work within fine jewelry traditions stretching back millennia. One might observe how the designer achieves a delicate balance between playful conceptual premise and serious technical execution, inviting viewers to reconsider relationships between the precious and the quotidian, function and ornament, necessity and luxury. The work invites consideration of how everyday objects contain their own inherent beauty awaiting recognition and elevation through artistic intervention.

- Research
- Traditionally, jewellers have created static pieces for thousands of years. By adding movement to the jewellery I allow our pieces to come alive, inspired by the beauty of magic and nature. As a jeweller, my concept is to find ways to introduce kinetic effects and hidden secrets that are a unique joy to own.
- Inspiration
- Invoking the magical wonderment of childhood, the Games collection fuses the fun with the fine. With their emphasis on actual play and irreverent references each piece has the dual purpose of encouraging daydreaming and lighthearted games
