About Icloud Office Chair
Icloud is an office chair developed for long periods of desk work. The traditional mesh back is replaced by a soft, deformable backrest made of TPU, while the main frame is made of nylon. The gradual hollow pattern of the backrest is inspired by the rhythm of piano keys and musical staves. The backrest follows the body when the user leans to the left or right. The armrests are raised by buttons placed underneath, and the seat cushion slides forward and back. The chair measures 700 mm in width, 700 mm in depth and 1250 mm in height.
KOHO R&D Team's Icloud Office Chair emerges from the contemporary tradition of ergonomic design that positions human wellbeing at the intersection of engineering excellence and aesthetic refinement, continuing a lineage that traces through the evolution of task seating from utilitarian necessity toward objects of genuine design significance. The chair demonstrates sophisticated understanding of the seated human form, evidenced in the generous S-curve of its backrest that appears calibrated to support the spine's natural curvature while accommodating diverse body types and working postures throughout extended periods of use. Material selection reveals thoughtful consideration of both functional and sensory experience, with the breathable mesh textile promising thermal comfort while its rhythmic vertical ribbing creates visual interest that elevates the object beyond mere utility. The polished aluminum five-star base anchors the composition with industrial clarity, its mirror-bright surfaces catching ambient light and providing visual counterpoint to the matte textile surfaces above. Particularly noteworthy is the sculptural treatment of the armrest assembly, which extends from the seat structure with confident cantilever geometry suggesting careful attention to both structural integrity and visual proportion. The adjustable headrest component demonstrates commitment to customizable support, its curved form echoing the organic vocabulary established throughout the design. One observes in this work the synthesis of multiple design imperatives, wherein engineering requirements, material possibilities, manufacturing considerations, and aesthetic aspirations converge toward a unified formal expression. - This is a special office chair. Its special thing is that it abandoned the traditional mesh form and replaced it with deformation soft chair back. It combines TPU and nylon materials to give this seat more flexibility. The combination of soft chair back and swing function can better adapt to dynamic changes in the back during the office process, and provide users with a unique experience.

- Design Challenge
- In order to realize the possibility of the back deformed of the chair, when designing it, many materials were tested, and did not meet the expectations. Finally, the TPU material was selected to ensure that the back of the chair can be deformed according to the back curve of the human body.
- Project Duration
- The project started in June 2020 and was officially launched in June 2022. It was developed for two years
- Operation Flow
- When the user tilted left or right, the back of the chair will follow the human body's tilt. Users can achieve the lifting of the handrail through the buttons under the handrail. The back of the chair can be dumped backwards, and the switch of the chassis can be locked. The cushion of the chair can slide back and back, and adjust according to the user's habits.
- Research
- Through the study of people's work and sitting posture, long -term desk work will make people feel stiff. The conventional chair back cannot soothe the back because of insufficient deformation. Studies have found that soft, deformable chair backs are more helpful for the relaxation of the human body.
The experiment was captured by 3D simulation and thermal imaging, and multiple tests were performed on different users. Several important support points on the back of the human body were statistical, and the curve of the back of the chair was adjusted to better fit the spine. - Inspiration
- Rhythm is the unchanging law of design aesthetics. The gradual hollow shape of the chair back comes from the rhythm and changes of the piano keys and the staff, which organically combines the smooth shape of the lines with the sense of rhythm, and can well adapt to the complex working posture of the human body.
