About Luna Lankastar The Night Witch

Luna Lankastar the Night Witch of Linerma. This mysterious witch no one knows where she came from but a long time ago, she was raised by the Goddess of Light Visatra, she teaches her all the powers and secrets that most known witches possess, so one day if the darkness arises, she will have the responsibility to protect everyone. As they are witches still trapped in another dark dimension that was created by Enix the god of chaos, Luna got a big responsibility on her back to free all the witches that were locked by the god of chaos Enix, and save Linerma from the darkness.

Luna Lankastar The Night Witch by Mania Carta exemplifies the extraordinary heights achieved in contemporary digital character artistry, representing a synthesis of classical portrait traditions with cutting-edge 3D modeling and rendering technologies that pushes the boundaries of what digital media can accomplish in capturing human presence and psychological complexity. This work emerges from the rich tradition of idealized feminine portraiture while incorporating fantasy elements that connect it to illustration heritage and contemporary character design practices, demonstrating how digital tools can serve deeply humanistic artistic visions when wielded with technical mastery and aesthetic sensitivity. The artist's achievement in subsurface scattering simulation creates flesh tones of remarkable convincingness, with light appearing to penetrate and scatter beneath the skin surface in ways that capture the translucent quality of living tissue, while the meticulous attention to microdetail including pore texture, fine facial hair, and subtle skin variations contributes to an uncanny sense of presence that rewards extended contemplation. The chromatic sophistication evident in the warm-to-cool transitions across the facial planes demonstrates nuanced understanding of how light interacts with dimensional form, while the strategic placement of illuminated jewelry creates focal secondary points that guide the eye through the composition without competing with the primary subject of the face itself. The titular reference to nocturnal witchcraft finds visual expression not through obvious supernatural elements but through subtle symbolic vocabulary including the recurring crescent moon motifs and the emergence-from-darkness compositional strategy that suggests liminal existence between seen and unseen realms. The work invites consideration of how digital artistry can achieve the emotional resonance traditionally associated with painted portraiture, asking viewers to contemplate the nature of presence, beauty, and the mysterious depths that reside behind every human gaze.

Production Technology
Character production and all design was made in Blender, sometimes, using Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Substance painter, but mostly each character production and cinematic is using almost blender.
Design Challenge
Regarding Luna and how she came to life, even Maniacarta doesn't know how that happen, at first once he gained a bit of experience in character design and CG art he wanted to create a CG model of a beautiful fashionable Korean girl, but then he starts to see something he never expects, someone from a far land coming from another dimension will come out from his screen and once he saw the magic, Luna the Night Witch of Linerma come to life.
Even if we ask him to make another one like her wants or reproduce her from scratch, he doesn't think he can because is like a mystery for him and it's hard to reproduce and he wants to keep it like that.
Project Duration
The project starts in the heart of Tokyo in January 2022 and it's updated each two months with new character designs and story reveal.
Operation Flow
Luna is a mysterious witch and has a deep secret hiding inside of her only one person knows that.
Research
The research of this witch character started by looking into the Korean culture and especially the fashion model such as K-pop, but he wanted to create something unique and mysterious, so because his interest to fantasy and darkness, he start to gather many elements such as the magic blue necklace that luna wears as also the earrings she having and that's the only reference that he used for her, he went to look for interior design elements then combined and mixed many elements such as celling lamps, crescent to get the design of the magic earring.
All other elements such as clothes design, hair style, and luna was from his imaginations.
Inspiration
During his young age, Maniacarta was always motivated by anime and video games, then once he grow up and gained many experiences in his career, with the passion he have and imagination he decided to create his own story related to witches and darkness, Maniacarta can't reveal so much about the story in detail what is about but it's around fantasy world and fights between gods, darkness and witches who need to protect the land of Linerma that Enix bring it to chaos for a reason that only one witch know.

Design Interview about Luna Lankastar The Night Witch

I was always fascinated by Korean fashion and it's culture this is where it really all starts. at first, I wanted to create a beautiful digital human Korean girl
but then my imagination start to take me somewhere else once I started to see Luna coming to life.
From there I start to think about how can I give a beautiful touch and make her unique from there I start to get inspiration from witches and mystery fantasy characters to create her to a new level of creativity.
Because her name was Luna I was thinking maybe if I create a lamp and a shape of a crescent it will be a good idea but then the way to make it and implement it was tricky from there I start to test and try everything like using Lego, it was for me like a puzzle to achieve what I want at the end from there I start to think about creating different lighting scenario for her and different hairstyle design.
Luna motivates me to create more appealing characters with different touches.

By learning blender and developing my skills and techniques on it I wanted to achieve something deep, beautiful and mystery I never done in my whole career life and after I won many awards and my work got featured many times I was on the point to say that I achieved what I want but still
as an artist I always like to find new challenges to bring something new to the World and this is really my true passion.

To complete my story the Witches of Linerma and reveal the true identity of this Witch why her name is Luna where she came from and what's the reason
that she is the main protagonist of the story to save Linerma from the Darkness that the God of chaos Enix created.

It took me two months and a half to make Luna from modeling, and texturing to rigging and final lighting and compositing

I wanted to create something new and unique but also mystery and beautiful.

No, it wasn't but I received many requests and offers from different big companies and studios from China, Korea, France, Singapore, Japan such as Netease, Square Enix, Colosso, Yihuu to sell my design and explain the process of how it was made and lease the production rights but I rejected them all.

I wanted to create an eternal beauty even for me her creator I still don't believe I made her but with the technology we have in our hand
I am going to bring Luna to a new whole level of creativity this time.

It was only me.

I didn't target anyone it was my personal project but I was focusing on bringing a new image and unique style to sandstorm the company I created and my design Luna with other creative styles helped me achieve that.

Luna is a mysterious witch that it's very hard to reproduce this is why every day I receive emails from different places in the world asking for tutorials or selling in it.

Luna it's coming from the name Moon and her earring and her necklace is a moon this is why her name is Luna.

I use mostly Blender when making Luna but also I used Marvelous Designer for making her clothes and Zbrush for sculpting details such as her crescent and then knald for baking the high details.

No, I didn't collaborate with anyone, I made Luna by self at home using my personal computer.

Technology was an important role for me, by learning Blender and developing my own skills and techniques on it
help me imagine and create what I want to achieve as the final product.

No it wasn't the only thing that was influenced was Luna necklaces beside that everything was created from my
imaginations.

The challenge I faced during the production of Luna was her characteristic and personality, at first I was focusing on creating a beautiful Korean girl in CG but then slowly started to see something out of what I wanted to make then once it appeared I start to focus on her slowly until I created her how I wanted to see her.

To be honest I never thought of that until someone from your staff contacted me to participate in the competition, at first I was hesitating because I was busy but also it was my first experience participating in an international design competition then I decided to free my time and focus on the competition for me it was a great experience and I will participate again in the future.

After I created Luna The Night Witch and win the heart of people around the world and receiving different awards in different platforms and got featured which I never tought of it, because of that it gave me a strong motivation to start to developing my self more and create more characters for my fantasy dark story.

I would like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to express myself and sharing my experience and the challenges I faces during the making of Luna Lankastar.

I also would like to thank you for the golden award I win which now gives me more motivation and challenge to bring something to a new high level of creativity to the World.

Grand Interview about Luna Lankastar The Night Witch

Regarding the production of Luna visual, indeed I got inspired from Korean culture but after that I mixed with my own imagination and fantasy, at first I wanted to learn how to make realism for characters, so it let me develop my skills in different approach but then my thinking went the other way, since at first I was relaying on images reference which most artists does but it really didn't work and after that I decided to use my own imagination and the few skills that I have develop in blender.

For Luna's necklace, I wanted to learn how to make simple model shapes and develop my skills in reflecting image references, so the necklace it was based of reference image I found on the internet and since I like it, I want to take the challenge to make it and reflect in the Luna. As for how the necklace that luna possess and why it is connected to Luna's hidden power, such thing I can't not revealed so you can just wait for it and you will understand the secret behind this witch and everything behind it.

This character visual that I have created it was at first a very good experience for me since I wanted to learn likeness and achieve realism but then I failed because I couldn't reflect what I see as reference images, so I decided to create it from my mind and then I made her in real-time since it was a big challenge for me in blender as it was my first skills development so i can give her the same visual impression based of the realism render. But I think with everything that i gained as skills i will

When I learned than Luna won awards, I really didn't believe myself, my challenge and goal was to break the weakness obstacle I had in characters that's how Luna was made and then it came into my mind to create story for this character and the challenge after was to create all witches, gods, evil dark army and so many other characters that hasn't be showed yet and that's where Visatra came to my mind, Visatra going to be revealed in the story and who rally is she and what is the reason to choose Luna to be the protecter of Linerma among other witches.

Make realism characters dark fantasy with beauty approach was my real goal to that with something that have souls, and it can feel she exist in our world, and since blender was my main tool for her production it went into so many obstacles, challenges but also honed new skills that have never had before. And since blender was free it was my main selection tool for such character production.

When I created Luna and then focus more on other witches productions, I took the path to develop my skill in environment, because character without a cool environment look boring and just floating in space, so I want to take a new approach on presenting my visuals and this is where the dark dimension came into play.

I used my own imagination to make such approach since I like dark fantasy, and my true passion was to make the key to make cool characters. My love and interest in games, anime, and fantasy characters has driven me to develop such witch and they are much more than that that will be revealed.

Well, it's been really 2 years, time go fast, and we evolve with the time. For Luna as explained before, she has hidden power within her, this witch has a deep secret only one person knows and her visual, aesthetic will morph and blend based on her environment, such things as key elements will be revealed in the story.

Because of Luna and the challenge, I took as adventure and path to break my weakness and the obstacle that i had before for character production, that was my key and why i have chooses such path and because of such achievement my passion to characters has grown and since then I can't breathe if don't take out what i see in my mind.

Well first thank you very much for giving me such an opportunity which I had never thought it could bring to me an evolution to something new as also I think with everything that I gained as skills I will remake Luna from scratch with her same visual without changing nothing but with much better aesthetic design especially her clothes and some hidden things that it will be revealed after.
