About Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an Mural Art

Stretching 61 meters in length and rising 5 meters in height, these murals embody the theme of "The Whisper of Silk and The Song of Horses." They artistically depict the historical origins of the Silk Road and the culturally rich city of Xi'an through a contemporary lens. The first section of the mural, resembling an abstract dragon head, draws inspiration from an engine. The second segment showcases three dynamic horses inspired by the terracotta army horse, jade horse, and horse stone carving in in Xi’an, symbolizing the three dynasties that established their capital in Xi’an.

The Hyatt Centric Gaoxin Xi'an Mural Art by Jansword Zhu exemplifies contemporary hospitality design's capacity to synthesize artistic expression with functional spatial planning, creating environments that transcend mere accommodation to become cultural destinations in their own right. The commanding mural installation, rendered across a series of vertical wooden slats that fragment and reconstitute the imagery, draws upon modernist traditions of architectural integration where art and structure become inseparable collaborators in shaping human experience. The palette selection demonstrates sophisticated understanding of chromatic psychology within dining contexts, employing warm earth tones that stimulate appetite and conversation while cooler sage passages provide visual respite and spatial depth. Technical accomplishment manifests in the seamless coordination of multiple lighting systems—the geometric grid of ceiling spots providing ambient illumination, sculptural pendant fixtures defining intimate dining zones, and accent lighting that grazes the mural surface to reveal its textural complexity. The spatial choreography guides guests through carefully calibrated zones of intimacy and openness, from the cozy embrace of upholstered banquettes to the theatrical spectacle of the open kitchen where culinary performance becomes visual entertainment. Material selections reveal attention to both sensory experience and practical durability, with leather, stone, wood, and woven textiles each contributing distinct tactile and visual qualities to the overall composition. The design appears to reference regional artistic traditions through the mural's flowing organic forms while maintaining cosmopolitan sophistication appropriate to contemporary global hospitality standards. One might contemplate how such environments shape our rituals of gathering, nourishment, and social connection, transforming the quotidian act of dining into an aesthetic experience that nourishes both body and spirit.

Inspiration
The first section of the mural, resembling an abstract dragon head, draws inspiration from an engine. The second segment showcases three dynamic horses inspired by the terracotta army horse, jade horse, and horse stone carving in Xi’an, symbolizing the three dynasties (Qin, Han, Tang) that established their capital in Xi’an. The strokes within the circles are not arbitrary; they are derived from the cursive script of calligraphy master Zhang Xu during the Tang dynasty. This artwork illuminates the entire architecture designed by Japanese architect Kuma Kengo, embodying the essence of the Hyatt Centric brand: "To explore."
