About Deca Joins 2024 Heaven And Dirt Concert

The band Deca Joins, in their first large scale ticketed concert, used water as the central theme, symbolizing the essence of the band's spirit. This concept was woven throughout the entire performance, with over 70% of their older songs being newly arranged. The concert resembled a grand art installation, seamlessly blending their poetic and aesthetically rich songs into a cohesive experience. The result was like bringing a poetic and picturesque painting to life on stage, creating an artistic feast that redefined the audience's visual and auditory senses.

B'IN LIVE CO.'s Deca Joins 2024 Heaven And Dirt Concert represents a significant achievement within contemporary performing arts scenography, demonstrating how architectural intervention, chromatic orchestration, and technological integration can transform a conventional concert venue into an immersive cosmological theater that amplifies thematic content through environmental totality. Working within established traditions of spectacular entertainment design yet pushing toward experiential innovation, the design team constructs a visual and spatial narrative that gives material form to the conceptual duality embedded in the production's title, translating abstract notions of heavenly transcendence and earthly groundedness into concrete sensory experience through masterful manipulation of light, surface, color, and atmospheric effects. The technical accomplishment evident in the seamless integration of multiple technological systems including intelligent lighting arrays, large-scale projection mapping across non-planar curved surfaces, coordinated atmospheric effects, and structural textile elements that function simultaneously as architectural envelope and luminous canvas demonstrates sophisticated command of contemporary stagecraft methodologies and cross-disciplinary design synthesis. The chromatic strategy proves particularly effective, deploying a complementary color harmony that moves from cool violet-blue passages suggesting nocturnal mystery, spiritual elevation, and cosmic vastness toward warm orange-amber zones evoking terrestrial warmth, human presence, and grounded vitality, thereby creating a thermal and symbolic gradient that guides emotional response and reinforces thematic content without resorting to literal representation. The curved canopy structures that dominate the upper registers of the composition achieve multiple functions simultaneously, establishing protective enclosure that focuses attention and energy inward toward the performance zone, creating dramatic perspectival effects through their sweeping arcs that suggest both ascent and embrace, providing surfaces for dynamic visual content, and evoking archetypal forms including celestial domes, protective canopies, and natural formations such as caves or sheltering rock overhangs. The integration of photographic landscape imagery depicting mountain peaks transforms the middle ground into a symbolic threshold zone, mediating between the human-scale performance platform and the architectural cosmos above while introducing naturalistic content that grounds the abstract chromatic environment in recognizable earthly reference, this synthesis of organic and technological visual languages exemplifying contemporary design's capacity to layer meaning and create conceptual depth through juxtaposition. The design honors the assembled audience by providing spectacular visual generosity while maintaining spatial relationships that support communal experience rather than individual isolation, the shared upward gaze toward the luminous canopy creating collective orientation and unified attention that amplifies the power of live performance through environmental reinforcement. One might contemplate how such ambitious scenographic interventions reshape the relationship between performer and audience, between human presence and technological mediation, between earthly specificity and cosmic suggestion, and how the ephemeral nature of such light-based installations paradoxically creates enduring emotional resonance and memorable communal experience that persists beyond the temporal bounds of the performance event itself.

Unique Properties
In response to the theme of this concert, "Heaven & Dirt", the stage design transformed "Round Sky and Square Earth" into a physical symbol, using a huge circular lighting structure which spans over the heads of the audience to form the main space on the top, and moving rectangular LED screens to depict the ground to achieve the effect that the artists can be visually covered by the video. The focus is on how to give the audience an impressive yet simple and powerful visual experience.
Dimensions & Packaging
Under the constraints of the scale of the venue and technical regulations, the LED has been enlarged as much as possible to a width of 22 meters to achieve the ultimate visual envelopment effect.
The arc shape truss is based on the existing product size planning and design in Taiwan, and as far as possible to meet the conditions of the diameter and the stage LED the same width, and then according to the venue configuration of the rigging point to the construction.

Production Technology
The LED was chosen to have a slit style, which gives a see-through effect. This feature was utilized in the opening, where the visual overlap between the front & back of the screen wrapped around the band, making their silhouettes invisible behind the screen, and arousing the audience's curiosity.
The circle truss on the top is equipped with TB1230 and can move up & down. By utilizing different heights and angles, the light structure becomes an art installation with variations and appreciation.
Design Challenge
deca joins’ music can be categorized in today's market as non-mainstream, artistic and poetic.
Therefore, the aesthetic design and presentation of this concert is different from a typical one. For example, the band preferred to use the light of the overall environment to convey the mood of the music at the moment rather than using follow light on their face. So we let the music lead the way, and matching it with the videos and lighting to present a poetic negative space.
Project Duration
The concert was held on February 23 & 24 2024 in Taipei.
Operation Flow
We hope that every audience will have something to take away from the show, whether it's the visual experience or the music itself.
Because deca joins' music is characterized by unimaginable arranging details, and in order to allow the audience to concentrate more on immersing themselves in a pure musical experience, we put the music first when integrating all the designs, trying to eliminate the essentials, making everything more comprehensible and touch the audience’s heart directly.
Research
Water inspired Deca Joins' lyrics. Therefore, we used the songs Bathroom, Fog, Heavy Rain and Waves as the skeleton of the concert.
The show starts with a strong ensemble sound, aiming to give the audience an uplifting impact. At the same time, the huge LED across the stage was raised to show the band up.
The circular lighting structure comes down in an attempt to change the spatial sense of the stage from spacious to cohesive at the song "Nighttime Monologues".
At the end, song "B1" combines the imaginations of the band members with a surreal visual style, jumping into another level of visual expression.
Inspiration
The concert theme "Heaven & Dirt" is describing how we would spend our time when we have different encounters on the journey of life.
The "Round Sky and Square Earth" is the first human imagination of the world. Although it was eventually proved to be a fallacy, it is a testimony to mankind's repeated experiments and explorations, and their desire to validate their own worldview.
This spirit echoes the perspective of life in the songs, and is the basis for the design concept of the concert.
