About Avand Pastry
Avand is a packaging series created for a boutique pastry brand. The range includes three cake boxes, a cookie box and a paper cup. Hand brush painting is combined with digital art to form free shapes that resemble a work of art. Deep green and gold are used as the primary brand colors. The painted surfaces reflect the handmade nature of the pastry and the care taken during production. A dynamic identity approach is applied, so the packages carry varied artistic impressions rather than a single fixed pattern.
Masoud Najafi Amirkiasar's Avand Pastry represents a compelling achievement in contemporary food service brand identity design where visual communication sophistication serves both commercial imperatives and cultural expression, situating itself within evolving traditions of Middle Eastern culinary branding that increasingly balance regional heritage markers with cosmopolitan design vocabularies accessible to diverse audiences, the packaging system demonstrates notable compositional intelligence through its deployment of a singular graphic device, vertical brushstroke forms in alternating forest green and golden beige, across multiple product formats maintaining visual coherence while adapting gracefully to varied dimensional requirements from flat surfaces to cylindrical volumes, this chromatic pairing proves particularly effective for pastry and baked goods contexts where the deep green suggests natural ingredients, freshness, and perhaps specific regional flavor associations such as pistachio which holds profound cultural significance in confectionery traditions, while the warm golden beige evokes the sensory pleasure of baking itself, caramelized sugars, toasted grains, and buttery richness, the white ground against which these gestures perform their visual dance functions not merely as neutral backdrop but as active communicator of cleanliness, premium quality, and contemporary sensibility, the gestural quality of the painted strokes introduces crucial warmth and human presence that prevents the minimalist restraint from reading as cold or corporate, instead suggesting artisanal care and individual attention appropriate to specialty food production where craft values increasingly drive consumer preference and brand loyalty, the bilingual typographic treatment thoughtfully navigates cultural positioning where flowing Persian script maintains connection to heritage and regional identity while crisp Latin sans-serif letterforms ensure accessibility and contemporary legibility across diverse consumer contexts, the systematic application of this identity across box, bag, cup, and collateral materials demonstrates professional brand architecture understanding where consistency builds recognition yet each application feels natural rather than forced, the vertical orientation of the stripe motif creates subtle upward visual movement that may be understood as aspirational or elevating, transforming functional packaging into aesthetic experience that extends brand encounter beyond mere transaction into lifestyle association, the photographed presentation of the complete product family employs classic brand identity documentation conventions where comprehensive display communicates professional completeness and market readiness, one might observe how such identity systems increasingly serve dual functions as both commercial tools and cultural ambassadors where design excellence itself becomes form of soft cultural communication projecting sophistication and creative vitality, the viewer encountering this work might contemplate how contemporary branding increasingly navigates the productive tension between local specificity and global intelligibility, how visual restraint paradoxically enables expressiveness, and how packaging design at its most successful transforms commodity products into carriers of meaning, aesthetic pleasure, and emotional resonance that enrich daily ritual and consumption experience.

- Production Technology
- A combination of hand brush painting and digital art is used to provide the new forms from scratch while attempting to be unique which comprises the main design of the packages.
The main insight comes from the meticulous attention employed while producing the pastry including handmade materials, attention to the beauty, & transparency in production. - Design Challenge
- The hardest part of the design project was convincing the founders to admit the suggested dynamic identity approach to the design, which led to a rather large production dimension, which led to more investment. Another challenge was the acceptability of such an approach for the consumer as it put a heavier cognitive burden.
- Project Duration
- The project started In Istanbul in November 2023 and finished in February 2024. This project was Printed in Iran and Published in Rasht, Iran
- Operation Flow
- The combination of deep green and gold Colors, as the brand's Primary Colors reminds the original identity
- Research
- The research methodology is mainly based on open-ended interviews with founders and a group of customers familiar with the cafe's background in the business. The research objective was to portray what the founders exactly had in mind as well as consumer insight about the pastry as it exists elsewhere and as they experienced it in the previous cafe. The research has also tested how pastry can be a stimulus for happiness in a society that is hardly achieved through ordinary channels in a way that AVAND might act as a facilitator to this goal.
- Inspiration
- The Design is inspired by art, painting, and brush effects.
