About Quite Dew Residence
Quite Dew is a residential interior design for a 99.1-square-meter apartment in Taiwan. The partition between the kitchen and the social area was replaced with a sliding glass door, so daylight reaches the whole home while cooking fumes are contained. Arched ceilings and curved walls soften the transitions between rooms and reduce the risk of injury for children. Light wood tones, artistic paints and stone textures form the material palette. A separate gaming room with soundproofing and colored light strips serves the adults.
YL Interior Design's Quite Dew Residence exemplifies contemporary achievements in luxury residential spatial design, demonstrating how carefully calibrated material selections, proportional refinement, and atmospheric orchestration can transform domestic space into environments of profound serenity and aesthetic satisfaction. The project situates itself within the trajectory of early twenty-first-century residential design movements that have progressively moved away from maximalist display toward restrained elegance, privileging quality of material and spatial experience over decorative abundance, a design philosophy with roots in both modernist principles of material honesty and East Asian aesthetic traditions valuing emptiness, natural materials, and contemplative spaces. The compositional achievement rests substantially on the sophisticated manipulation of a neutral chromatic envelope, where subtle temperature variations between warm honey wood tones, cool gray stone veining, and balanced greige textile surfaces create harmonic richness without chromatic saturation, demonstrating the technical skill required to prevent monochromatic palettes from reading as monotonous or sterile, a challenge successfully addressed here through textural diversity and carefully introduced accent notes. The space exhibits notable formal intelligence in its layered spatial organization, where foreground seating, middle-ground media wall, and background fenestration establish clear depth progression while maintaining visual connectivity across zones, a three-part spatial articulation that provides both intimate human scale in the furniture grouping and generous atmospheric volume in the overall architectural envelope. The material palette demonstrates discerning curation, with the book-matched marble or stone media wall serving as a geological artwork, its dramatic veining patterns providing organic visual movement that animates the otherwise geometrically disciplined composition, while the pale wood cabinetry introduces warmth and grain texture that prevents the stone dominance from creating excessive coolness, these two primary material systems establishing a productive dialogue between mineral permanence and organic growth that enriches the spatial narrative. The lighting design merits particular recognition for its layered sophistication, combining diffused natural daylight filtered through sheer drapery that creates luminous atmospheric softness, warm accent lighting within display cabinetry that generates intimate focal glows, ambient recessed fixtures providing general illumination, and the sculptural chandelier contributing both decorative presence and mid-level suspended light, this multi-source strategy creating dimensional richness and temporal variation as natural light conditions shift throughout the day, demonstrating understanding that residential lighting must serve both functional requirements and atmospheric ambitions. The fenestration treatment achieves the difficult balance between privacy and luminosity, with floor-to-ceiling windows maximizing natural light admission and visual expansion while layered drapery systems allow modulation of transparency and enclosure according to occupant needs and diurnal rhythms, this flexible boundary between interior and exterior suggesting urban residential context where views are valued but controlled exposure becomes essential. The furniture selection and arrangement reveal sensitivity to human occupation patterns, with the low-profile sectional seating establishing an intimate conversation zone while the circular coffee table facilitates gathering without hierarchical head positions, the terracotta accent cushion providing chromatic warmth and visual anchor, and the naturalistic flowering branches introducing seasonal reference and organic irregularity into the highly controlled spatial order, these carefully chosen elements suggesting a design approach that values both aesthetic cohesion and lived human experience. The project invites viewers to consider how residential space functions not merely as functional shelter but as carefully calibrated environments for psychological wellbeing, aesthetic contemplation, and daily rituals of domesticity, spaces where material quality, proportional refinement, chromatic harmony, and atmospheric orchestration combine to support human flourishing, raising questions about the relationship between spatial design and quality of life, the role of restraint and refinement in creating enduring rather than trendy environments, and the ways contemporary residential design negotiates between minimalist clarity and sensory warmth, ultimately proposing that luxury resides not in decorative abundance but in the subtle perfection of proportion, material, light, and spatial flow.

- Unique Properties
- To maximize natural light, the designers replaced the partition between the kitchen and social area with a sliding glass door, allowing sunlight to flow throughout the space while blocking cooking fumes. Arched ceilings and curved walls ensure a smooth transition between areas, adding a child-friendly design element to prevent injuries. A dedicated gaming space was created for adults, with a contrasting solid color scheme. High-quality soundproofing materials ensure a serene environment, while RGB light strips enhance the private retreat's ambiance.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- This 99.1-square-meter, ten-year-old apartment features 4 plus 1 rooms, a living room, and a dining room.
First, they removed the partition between the kitchen and the social area to improve natural lighting. Second, they created additional storage spaces. Whether by utilizing the area beneath wall-mounted cabinets or the space behind the sofa, the designers sought out every opportunity for storage, ensuring that the residents would have ample space for their children's belongings. - Tags

- Production Technology
- The materials and elements used in the space include artistic paints, solid wood veneers, whiteboard paint, chalkboard, sound-absorbing cotton, and large tiles. In the light wood-toned space, the walls are covered with artistic paints that resist dirt and stains. The rustic charm of the paints is paired with stone textures featuring golden veins, creating a refined aesthetic within the soft ambiance. For the children's playroom, a chalkboard is included, elevating it into an educational and entertaining space.
- Design Challenge
- The designers' focus was not only on surface aesthetics but also on the hidden, essential elements that ensure both beauty and functionality. The space required meticulous soundproofing, with materials embedded into the ceilings, floors, and walls to maintain a tranquil environment. Eco-friendly materials with low formaldehyde content were prioritized to protect the family's health. Given the presence of children, easy-to-maintain materials were carefully selected. These thoughtful details highlight the complexity and refinement involved in creating a safe, functional, and beautiful home.

- For homeowners, space planning is the greatest gift they could give their children. Thoughtful details like whiteboard paint in the hallway and large, open storage shelves allow the child to explore, learn, and grow. Guests are impressed by the expansive floor-to-ceiling windows that transform the once-dark, cramped area into a bright and open environment. The couple is thrilled to see their child flourish in this nurturing space, where every corner fosters creativity and happiness.
- Research
- The project, 'Morning Dew, Quiet Night,' reflects the anticipation of a new family member. The design draws inspiration from the gentle yet attentive care parents have for their children. Morning dew symbolizes the freshness of a new day, akin to the parents' thoughtful nurturing. Rounded corners enhance safety, creating a warm and welcoming environment. The 'Quiet Night' evokes the peace and serenity of a home after a busy day, with soft beige tones and wood textures providing a calming atmosphere. This space offers a sanctuary where the family can enjoy moments of tranquility and togetherness.
- Inspiration
- The residents, a young couple, sought to create a wonderful environment for their newborn. The designers prioritized hypoallergenic, health-conscious, and easy-to-clean materials. After analyzing the site conditions and preferences, they reconfigured the layout to address the challenge of limited natural light from one side. A dedicated personal gaming space was included for the owner. Light wood tones were used as the base, complemented by stone textures and refined lighting details, enhancing the space with a charming, inviting atmosphere.
