About Patrick Kitchen Recycling Bin
Patrick is a kitchen recycling bin designed for sorting household waste. Three separate compartments guide users to separate waste types accurately and support recycling. The main shell is made of environmentally friendly stainless steel, while the top cover, back shell and base are made of degradable plastic. The surface is smooth and has no hidden corners, so cleaning is simple. A pedal opens the lid slowly and quietly, and the lid returns on its own, so the inside is never touched. The lid rotates without striking the wall behind the bin.
Ziel Home Furnishing Technology Co., Ltd's Patrick Kitchen Recycling Bin represents a significant achievement within contemporary homeware design, positioning functional domestic infrastructure as worthy of aesthetic consideration and demonstrating how everyday utility objects can embody both environmental responsibility and visual refinement, emerging from design traditions that honor materiality, celebrate restraint, and recognize that the objects accompanying daily rituals shape domestic experience and personal identity, this triple-compartment waste separation system accomplishes several notable formal and conceptual objectives through its carefully calibrated design language, the brushed stainless steel body immediately establishes material credibility and longevity associations, stainless steel carrying cultural connotations of professional kitchens, hygienic surfaces, durability, and timelessness while its brushed linear finish softens industrial associations through subtle surface articulation that catches light with nuanced variation rather than stark mirror reflection, the proportional relationship between the unit's horizontal extension and vertical height creates visual stability suggesting grounded permanence rather than tentative placement, inviting psychological ease within the domestic environment, three individual lids crowned with soft gray polymer surfaces introduce tactile warmth and acoustic consideration, likely dampening the metallic percussion of steel-on-steel closure while their trapezoidal profiles with gentle radius edges demonstrate attention to hand interaction and repetitive use ergonomics, perhaps most significantly the color-coded foot pedal system in saturated yellow, green, and blue translates the abstract concept of waste sorting into immediate visual and kinesthetic legibility, these chromatic choices appearing to reference internationally recognized recycling conventions where yellow often indicates mixed recycling or specific material streams, green suggests organic or compostable matter, and blue designates paper or cardboard, the pedal mechanism itself solving the fundamental challenge of sanitary waste disposal by eliminating hand contact with potentially contaminated surfaces, the foot-activated opening representing a small but meaningful gesture toward domestic hygiene that becomes invisible through habitual use yet fundamentally improves daily experience, formally the design exhibits sophisticated restraint characteristic of Northern European design philosophies that emerged through modernist movements emphasizing democratic access to well-designed objects, material honesty over applied decoration, and the belief that functional objects deserve the same design consideration as fine art, the Patrick Kitchen Recycling Bin's integration into the domestic kitchen landscape as photographed here suggests design success, the unit neither dominating its environment through excessive presence nor disappearing into insignificance, instead occupying a confident middle position where utility and appearance achieve equilibrium, the surrounding kitchen environment of pale wood cabinetry, cool gray countertops, and abundant natural light establishes a contemporary domestic ideal characterized by cleanliness, order, natural material celebration, and spaciousness, within this context the recycling system appears as natural extension of the kitchen's design vocabulary rather than apologetic necessity, elevating waste management from hidden basement exile to visible kitchen integration, this visibility itself carrying ideological weight within contemporary environmental discourse where making sustainable practices visible rather than hidden potentially reinforces positive behavioral patterns and acknowledges environmental responsibility as central rather than peripheral to domestic life, the technical execution demonstrates manufacturing sophistication through precise panel alignment, consistent surface finishing, clean radius execution on lid edges, and apparently seamless integration of mechanical pedal linkage systems within the minimal body volume, these details reward close observation while supporting effortless daily function, one might consider how this design participates in broader cultural negotiations around domestic labor, environmental responsibility, aesthetic standards, and the roles objects play in constructing personal and household identity, does the presence of a thoughtfully designed recycling system make sustainable practice more likely, more pleasurable, more visible to household members and guests, and if so what does this suggest about design's capacity to influence behavior through aesthetic means, the work invites contemplation of how even humble domestic infrastructure can embody values, communicate priorities, and shape the texture of daily experience within the intimate theater of the home.

- Unique Properties
- This product uses an innovative three-compartment independent design to guide users to easily achieve accurate garbage classification, promote resource recycling and environmental protection. Silent opening and closing technology ensures that the trash can is quiet and silent during use. Unique open cover does not hit the wall design, through accurate mechanical calculation and structural design, to ensure that the cover in the work of smooth rotation, to avoid collision with the field wall.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- Width 605mm x Depth 427mm x Height 388 mm
- Tags
- Classified design, easy to clean, silent opening and closing, no damage to the wall.
- Production Technology
- The Patrick main shell is made of environmentally friendly stainless steel plate, with a degradable plastic top cover, back shell and base. The surface is smooth and has no dead corners, which is easy to clean and reduces the difficulty and time cost of cleaning. In particular, it is worth mentioning that its silent open/close cover design, the use of slow down technology, almost silent when opening and closing, to avoid noise generated during use.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge in the realization and research process is how to combine several functional points of "classified design, easy to clean, silent opening and closing, and not hitting the wall", and also need to ensure that the operation is simple, safe and reasonable, and integrated into the home environment. Ultimately, it is hoped that these functions will bring a more convenient and healthy living experience to the home.
- Project Duration
- The project started in Shenzhen in October 2023 and will be completed in Shenzhen in June 2024.
- Operation Flow
- The operation of this garbage can is very simple and intuitive. Users only need to gently pedal the operation, the lid of the trash can will automatically slowly open, without manual lifting. After the garbage is placed, the lid will automatically return, and the entire process does not need to touch the inside of the trash can, effectively preventing hand pollution and odor.
- Research
- In today's increasing attention to environmental protection and sustainable development, we deeply feel the importance of garbage classification for environmental protection. We have observed that people want simple and efficient solutions to deal with the waste generated in their lives. We have integrated the concept of "sorting orderly" and "convenient life" to design this practical and beautiful 3-category garbage can.
- Inspiration
- In home life, the disposal process of domestic waste usually produces some very troublesome problems, such as garbage classification, opening and closing noise, garbage can cleaning, bucket lid opening and closing wall and so on. Based on these pain points, we want to explore a new garbage can product, which cleverly integrates easy cleaning, convenient sorting and silent technology, so that daily waste disposal becomes both efficient and environmentally friendly.
