About Lucent Porcelain Slab
Lucent is the heart of the Lumin Collection, where every beam and shadow weaves a narrative of warmth, reflection, and serenity. This collection captures the ethereal dance of light as it graces surfaces. As rays bend to reveal the delicate green beneath, they cast fleeting patterns of life and nature's beauty. Lucent with the Evodry effect and high-quality porcelain features, illustrates the transparency of glass, unveiling gentle whispers of the world beyond through refraction.
PMA IMPERIO DESIGN DEPARTMENT's Lucent Porcelain Slab exemplifies a contemporary synthesis of material innovation and architectural tradition within the context of hospitality environments, where spatial design serves not merely functional requirements but cultivates atmospheric experience and sensory engagement. This interior composition demonstrates profound understanding of symmetry's psychological effects, deploying bilateral organization to establish visual calm, predictability, and a sense of ceremonial order that elevates the quotidian act of dining into ritual observance. The design achieves compositional sophistication through its axial clarity, whereby twin arched alcoves flanking a central structural element create rhythmic repetition that simultaneously frames and multiplies spatial experience, allowing each dining zone to function as both independent realm and component of unified whole. Chromatic accomplishment manifests in the restrained yet warm palette, where earth-derived tonalities—terracotta suggesting ancient clay traditions, dusty rose evoking mineral deposits, sage green referencing living vegetation, and creamy limestone hues—ground the contemporary space in material histories while maintaining present-day refinement. The integration of textured porcelain slab surfaces, apparent in the granular, aggregate-rich wall treatments, represents notable technical facility in large-format ceramic material application, demonstrating how contemporary building materials can achieve visual and tactile richness traditionally associated with natural stone or rendered plaster while offering superior durability and consistency. Lighting design reveals particular accomplishment, with concealed cove illumination producing warm amber bands that graze textured surfaces to reveal their material character, while suspended pendant fixtures provide functional task lighting through elegantly proportioned ribbed glass forms that echo the vertical striations of the backlit translucent panels. The design invites consideration of how built environments shape human experience through proportion, material, light, and color, posing through its carefully orchestrated elements questions about the relationship between architectural permanence and domestic comfort, between ceremonial formality suggested by symmetry and intimate warmth conveyed by earth tones and organic elements. The incorporation of living vegetation—both suspended and potted—introduces biophilic dimensions that soften geometric rigor while reinforcing the palette's connection to natural systems, suggesting that contemporary design increasingly seeks integration of organic and manufactured, transient and permanent, growth and structure. One might observe how the ribbed translucent panels, reading simultaneously as solid boundary and luminous veil, perform the threshold function architecturally, defining space while permitting light penetration, creating privacy while maintaining visual connection, embodying the designer's nuanced understanding of enclosure as gradated condition rather than absolute binary. The circular dining tables and channel-tufted seating demonstrate attention to ergonomic comfort and social dynamics, their rounded forms contrasting with architectural rectilinearity to designate zones of human gathering within geometric framework, while their olive-toned upholstery introduces chromatic bridge between warm architectural earth tones and cool neutral flooring. This work invites viewers to contemplate how material choices communicate values—sustainability through porcelain's durability, craftsmanship through visible texture, hospitality through warm tonalities—and how spatial organization can choreograph movement, direct attention, and ultimately shape the quality of human interaction within designed environments.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- Lucent with the Evodry effect and high-quality porcelain features, this product illustrates the transparency of glass, unveiling gentle whispers of the world beyond through refraction.
It is designed with two adjacent faces, each measuring 120 x 280 cm and 6 mm thick. This product is suitable for a variety of spaces, such as bathrooms, lobbies, living rooms, and restaurants. - Dimensions & Packaging
- This product is designed with two adjacent tiles. Each face or tile measures 120 x 280 cm and has a thickness of 6 mm. The thickness and lightness of these slabs facilitate both transportation and installation. In special cases, they can also be slightly bent, forming a curved position due to their flexibility.

- Production Technology
- The plant species and the lighting composition of each frame were designed and executed by PMA in the best way to convey the sense of human-nature connection. The Evodry effect, created with vertical lines on the surface, is achieved by applying transparent dry powder. These embossed lines resonate with the texture of the specific glass used in the making of Lucent. This design is a combination of photography and enhanced digital printing for porcelain slabs. No stock images were used.
- Design Challenge
- To capture the essence of light and reflection, as it was the core concept of our design collection, we had to test different glass types and lighting compositions to create the final shot in a way that clearly captures the aesthetics and features of the composition.
- Project Duration
- Lucent was part of a collection of ceramic products that were presented at the Building and Construction Industry Exhibition in August 2024, in Tehran, Iran. This collection included the first 6mm porcelain slabs produced in Iran.
- Operation Flow
- This 6mm thick porcelain slab is thinner for a contemporary look, lighter for easier handling and installation, and more efficient, maintaining strength and durability without compromise. In addition to that, the plant species, the green tones of olive and sage in the leaves, and the composition of the plants in the frame were all meticulously designed to convey a sense of human-nature connection.
- Research
- This is exploratory research with the objective of incorporating elements in ceramic to create a modern, nature-inspired interior design. Our focus group prepared a survey taken by one hundred architects and clients. It revealed that, firstly, light plays a primary role in modern architecture and contemporary interior design. Secondly, glass widens and lightens the space by reflecting light and passing it through, therefore, it captures a sense of peace and tranquility. Thus, Lucent was designed to transcend the qualities of a normal slab in two aspects, design and flexibility.
