About Stay Gold Residential Interior

Stay Gold is a residential interior design for a home of 110.7 square meters in Taoyuan, Taiwan. The layout holds three bedrooms, two living areas and two bathrooms. Curved partitions in the entryway, along with curved ceilings and wall corners, soften the protruding structural beams and let daylight move through the rooms. Suede-textured mineral paint diffuses the light, while wood and handcrafted rattan add warmth. Flexible plywood is used to form the smooth curves. Integrated storage keeps the shared spaces open, and a neutral palette supports a calm and simple atmosphere.

Chen Yu Chiu's Stay Gold Residential Interior emerges from contemporary design discourse that honors material authenticity, spatial restraint, and the creation of domestic environments serving as psychological sanctuaries within increasingly complex urban contexts, reflecting broader movements in residential design that privilege quality of inhabitation over ostentation, timelessness over trend adherence, and sensory comfort over visual spectacle. This interior composition demonstrates sophisticated engagement with principles drawn from Japanese spatial philosophy emphasizing ma or meaningful negative space, Scandinavian hygge traditions celebrating warmth and intimate comfort, and contemporary minimalism's focus on essential elements and material honesty, synthesizing these diverse influences into a cohesive environment that feels simultaneously international and personally scaled, cosmopolitan yet intimate. The compositional achievement resides in the designer's masterful orchestration of horizontal emphasis and spatial breathing room, where each furnishing element receives sufficient surrounding space to assert its form and character without crowding or visual competition, a restraint that paradoxically creates greater sense of abundance and spaciousness than more densely furnished alternatives might achieve. Chromatic sophistication manifests in the nuanced warm neutral palette that avoids the sterility of pure grayscale minimalism while maintaining tonal discipline, the subtle variations in buff, greige, mushroom, and sienna tones creating atmospheric depth and preventing monotony, while darker wood accents and muted textile colors provide just enough contrast to establish visual hierarchy without disrupting overall serenity. Technical facility appears in the textured wall treatment that transforms potentially flat surfaces into tactile visual fields suggesting organic process and artisanal craft, in the integrated lighting design that layers ambient, accent, and decorative illumination to create flexible atmospheric control, and in the thoughtful material selection pairing substantial upholstered comfort with sleek wooden surfaces and plush textile layers. Particularly successful passages include the interplay between the oval coffee table's curved organic form and the rectilinear geometry dominating other elements, creating satisfying formal dialogue between geometric and biomorphic vocabularies, and the ceiling's textured surface activated by patterned light from the decorative fixture, transforming an often-neglected plane into active visual territory. These formal choices serve expressive ends by creating environment that communicates care, intentionality, and attention to inhabitant experience, suggesting that domestic space can function as carefully composed setting supporting daily life's rituals while maintaining aesthetic coherence. Thematically, this interior explores the balance between openness and enclosure, between minimalism's clarity and domesticity's warmth, between aesthetic discipline and lived comfort, proposing that contemporary residential design can honor both formal rigor and genuine livability without compromise. The space seems to celebrate the quotidian poetry of daily inhabitation, the morning coffee ritual suggested by the cup on the coffee table, the evening relaxation invited by the generous seating, the contemplative moment enabled by the artwork's abstract gestures, framing domestic life not as backdrop but as worthy subject of design attention. The predominantly horizontal composition with its extended low-profile sofa and emphatic ceiling tray establishes grounding stability and promotes psychological ease, while the vertical window element introduces connection to exterior environment and natural light cycle, suggesting dialogue between interior sanctuary and exterior world rather than complete retreat. The limited but carefully chosen decorative objects including the organic patterned sphere and textile accessories demonstrate curation philosophy that values each element's contribution, avoiding decorative excess while preventing austere coldness, striking calibration between too much and too little that characterizes mature design sensibility. One might observe how this interior negotiates the tension between contemporary design's international vocabulary and the necessarily personal nature of domestic space, asking viewers to consider how we create environments that feel both current and enduring, both aesthetically coherent and genuinely comfortable, both visually composed and authentically lived within.

Production Technology
The design employs a multi-phase process combining conceptual development, precise material selection, and advanced woodworking techniques. Flexible plywood is used to create smooth curves, suede-textured paint enhances light diffusion, and handcrafted rattan elements add warmth. These techniques ensure a harmonious yet technically refined space.
Design Challenge
Transforming structural constraints such as protruding beams into design elements was a major challenge. Internally, reconciling historical context with modern minimalism required rethinking spatial relationships. Externally, production limitations and material availability demanded innovative craftsmanship, ultimately unifying the space into a refined and harmonious environment.
Project Duration
The project began in June 2023 in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and was completed in September 2023. The design and planning phase lasted three months, followed by a four-month construction period.
