About Solara Hybrid Vacuum Cleaner
Solara Hybrid is the world’s first hybrid vacuum cleaner, combining the power of a canister vacuum with the convenience of a cordless stick. Its wheeled docking station enables effortless switching between modes, reducing user strain. 400W motor and dual battery provide strong suction and up to 120 minutes of operation. Made from durable, lightweight materials with a cost effective metallic finish, its patent pending design prioritizes efficiency, ergonomics, and ease of use. Solara Hybrid redefines home cleaning with its smart hybrid functionality, making it a game changer in vacuum industry.
Within the contemporary tradition of domestic appliance design that emerged from mid-twentieth century movements prioritizing the synthesis of form and function, Yasemin Ulukan's Solara Hybrid Vacuum Cleaner demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of material expression and visual harmony that elevates utilitarian cleaning equipment to the realm of considered industrial art. The design vocabulary speaks to established conventions within the field where organic curvilinear forms soften the technological nature of mechanical systems, evidenced here in the gently rounded canister body that avoids harsh angular transitions while maintaining visual stability through its low center of gravity. The chromatic restraint exhibited through the gunmetal, silver, and black palette aligns with design philosophies that favor timeless neutrality over trend-dependent colorways, suggesting the influence of movements that championed the honest expression of materials and the beauty inherent in precision manufacture. Technical accomplishment reveals itself in the seamless integration of multiple components including the ribbed flexible hose, the segmented aluminum extension wand, and the multi-surface floor attachment, each element maintaining visual coherence through consistent material language while serving distinct functional purposes. The prominent radial grille pattern introduces geometric complexity that recalls both mechanical turbine aesthetics and contemplative mandala forms, creating a visual anchor that invites closer examination while communicating the internal suction mechanism's presence. One might observe how the overall silhouette achieves that elusive quality of appearing both purposeful and sculptural, suggesting that domestic implements need not sacrifice aesthetic consideration for operational efficacy. The work invites viewers to consider how objects of daily use might embody the same design intelligence typically reserved for more celebrated categories of creative production.

- Production Technology
- Solara Hybrid is crafted using high durability, lightweight materials such as reinforced ABS and aluminum for an optimal balance of strength and portability. To achieve the premium metallic finish in a cost effective way, we utilized the hot stamping method. Designing surfaces compatible with this technique requires advanced expertise. The motor and battery system ensure high efficiency, while the docking station enables seamless transformation. The design is currently patent pending.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge was integrating the power of a canister vacuum into a cordless design while maintaining user comfort. Designing a wheeled docking system with an automatic locking mechanism required extensive prototyping. Optimizing weight distribution, ensuring durability, and developing a cost effective metallic finish using hot stamping were key hurdles. Over two years, we overcame these challenges through rigorous testing, innovative engineering, and material optimization.
- Project Duration
- The project started in January 2023 and lauched in Turkey in March 2025
- Operation Flow
- Solara Hybrid operates as both a cordless stick vacuum and a canister vacuum with a simple transformation. When used upright, it offers quick, hassle free cleaning. For deeper cleaning, the main unit docks onto a wheeled station, reducing strain and improving mobility. A custom designed locking system automatically secures the unit when docked. With two interchangeable batteries, it provides up to 120 minutes of continuous use, ensuring a seamless and efficient cleaning experience.
- Research
- The research focused on enhancing the usability and efficiency of cordless vacuums. The objective was to minimize user fatigue while preserving strong cleaning performance. Over two years of rigorous testing and the development of hundreds of prototypes, user interviews, market analysis, and real-life household tests identified the need for a hybrid model. These insights led to the creation of an ergonomic wheeled docking system and a dual-battery design, improving both convenience and cleaning efficiency.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration for Solara Hybrid came from the need for a more versatile and user friendly cleaning solution. Most households own both a canister vacuum for deep cleaning and a cordless stick vacuum for quick tasks. To eliminate this redundancy, a single device was developed to combine the benefits of both vacuum types. Extensive research on ergonomics and user fatigue led to the creation of a wheeled docking system, ensuring easy maneuverability and improved cleaning efficiency.
