About Innovation Competition Concept Design

Innovation Competition is the visual identity created for an innovation competition organized by a municipality in Istanbul. The identity is built on an apple figure combined with circuit lines, referring to the story of Isaac Newton and to technology. The program covers both digital and printed items. Stage videos, animated backgrounds and a digital art exhibition present the selected projects. Social media visuals, web banners and screen content support visibility, while posters, invitations and certificates complete the event experience.

Within the contemporary landscape of visual communication design for innovation-focused initiatives, Eda Elmaci's Innovation Competition Concept Design demonstrates sophisticated command of the symbolic vocabularies that have come to define technological optimism and creative enterprise in the early twenty-first century, deploying a visual strategy that bridges the organic metaphor of discovery with the geometric language of digital systems. The composition centers upon an apple rendered not in naturalistic terms but as a luminous cartographic structure, its surface inscribed with linear networks that suggest geographic territories, circuit pathways, or data mapping schemas, transforming the ancient symbol of knowledge and innovation into a vessel for contemporary technological understanding. This central motif engages a rich iconographic heritage: the apple carries profound cultural weight across traditions, from the fruit of knowledge in creation narratives to the apple that purportedly inspired gravitational theory, and extending into its modern associations with innovation through its adoption by technology enterprises, here reimagined as a transparent, mappable structure that suggests both global reach and the multi-layered complexity of contemporary creative challenges. The chromatic achievement of the work resides in its bold deployment of electric blue-violet as the dominant atmospheric presence, a hue traditionally associated with imagination, technological advancement, and future-oriented thinking, punctuated by energetic magenta accents that create visual vibration and suggest dynamic energy, while the cyan-green apple form provides a cooler luminous focus that appears to generate its own light within the composition. Technical execution reveals careful attention to visual hierarchy and information architecture: the typographic elements integrate seamlessly into the spatial environment without competing with the central symbolic form, the layered background patterns create depth and visual interest while maintaining legibility of primary elements, and the geometric line work demonstrates precision and clarity befitting communication design intended for professional competition contexts. The work appears to address the challenge of visualizing abstract concepts of innovation and creative competition, translating these intangible qualities into concrete visual form through symbolic condensation and contemporary design language, suggesting that innovation involves mapping new territories, illuminating previously hidden connections, structuring complexity into comprehensible patterns, and radiating energy outward from core creative insights. The piece demonstrates awareness of its likely exhibition and reproduction contexts, maintaining strong visual impact and legibility across scales from large-format environmental applications to digital screen displays, employing sufficient contrast and compositional clarity to function effectively in the varied viewing conditions of contemporary media ecosystems. The designer's choices reflect sensitivity to the expectations and visual literacy of audiences engaged with innovation ecosystems, deploying a visual vocabulary that communicates technological sophistication without alienating viewers through excessive abstraction, grounding complex geometric and atmospheric effects in the immediately recognizable and symbolically rich apple form that provides conceptual anchoring and narrative accessibility. One might observe how the work negotiates the perennial design challenge of communicating abstract institutional values through concrete visual form, inviting viewers to contemplate how visual identity systems for creative competitions must simultaneously inspire participation, communicate credibility and professional standards, and embody the very qualities of innovation and fresh thinking that such competitions seek to celebrate and advance.

Unique Properties
The 11 innovation competition, organized by başakşehir municipality, featured digital and print designs. Stage videos, animated backgrounds, and an nft exhibition showcasing the winning projects were created. Social media visuals, web banners, and led screen content enhanced visibility, while printed materials like posters, invitations, and award certificates contributed to a cohesive and engaging event experience.
Dimensions & Packaging
This project utilized different technical specifications for both digital and print designs. Digital designs, including social media graphics and web banners, were optimized, while motion graphics and videos were produced in high resolution. Digital files were used for the nft exhibition. Print materials such as posters and invitations were printed on premium paper, and all designs were optimized to ensure high quality and clarity across both digital and print platforms.

Production Technology
The production technology for this project involved both digital and print mediums. For digital designs, industry standard software such as adobe photoshop, illustrator, and after effects were used to create visual content, animations, and interactive elements. For print materials, high quality printing techniques were employed to ensure clarity and vibrancy, with materials like glossy paper for posters, invitations, and certificates. Additionally, motion graphics and video content were optimized for led screens and digital platforms, ensuring seamless integration across various media.
Design Challenge
The challenge in this project was to combine innovation with design by seamlessly integrating digital and physical elements, including motion graphics, print materials, and the nft exhibition. At the same time, it was crucial to maintain interactivity while staying true to the theme of innovation, which required researching trends in digital art, design, and technology.
Project Duration
The project duration was 5 months, and it took place in Istanbul in December 2024.
Operation Flow
In this project, the flow and interaction were designed for a seamless experience. Digital and print designs were integrated into the stage, nft exhibition, and social media. Motion graphics and interactive elements enhanced engagement, while social media enabled participants to connect with the designs and share their experiences.
Research
The research for this project focused on understanding the intersection of innovation, design, and technology in event branding. It examined how digital and print designs, motion graphics, and interactive elements can enhance audience engagement and create a cohesive event experience. The research also explored the integration of nft exhibitions as part of the event's creative concept, aiming to showcase innovative projects in a dynamic and interactive way. By studying current trends in design, technology, and digital art, the project aimed to deliver an experience that reflects the innovative spirit of the competition.
Inspiration
The design process was inspired by the story of isaac newton, where an apple fell on his head, leading to the discovery of the theory of gravity. This story symbolizes how innovation can arise from unexpected moments. The apple figure was combined with circuits, creating a strong logo that reflects technology and innovation, forming the visual identity of the competition.
