About Button Blessings Brand Design
Merging button design with traditional temple culture, this design infuses modern aesthetics to breathe new life into ancient deities. Each button symbolizes protection, blessings, and faith, making spirituality accessible to younger generations in their daily lives. Through creative packaging and storytelling, these designs serve as both cultural carriers and fashionable expressions, seamlessly integrating tradition with modernity and revitalizing temple culture in contemporary society.
Button Blessings's Brand Design invites viewers into an expansive visual universe where the conventions of architectural rendering, environmental concept design, and character-driven narrative illustration converge within a sophisticated isometric framework that recalls both the democratic spatial logic of medieval manuscript illumination and the immersive world-building characteristic of contemporary interactive media design. The composition demonstrates remarkable technical command through its sustained visual density across an extended horizontal format, maintaining chromatic coherence and narrative legibility despite the proliferation of discrete vignettes, architectural elements, and character groupings that populate every available zone of the picture plane. Working within a deliberately constrained pastel palette dominated by soft lavenders, mint greens, peachy corals, baby blues, and rose pinks, the design achieves chromatic sophistication through subtle temperature gradients that guide the eye horizontally across modular narrative zones while maintaining overall tonal unity, each color selected for its contribution to an atmosphere of gentle abundance and approachable whimsy rather than dramatic contrast or hierarchical emphasis. The isometric projection system employed throughout eliminates traditional perspectival recession, instead presenting all spatial elements in flattened parallel projection that grants equal visual access to foreground market stalls, middle-ground pavilions, and background architectural elements, a spatial democracy that invites prolonged exploration and rewards careful viewing through the discovery of peripheral details and micro-narratives embedded within the larger compositional structure. Architecturally, the design synthesizes diverse vernacular references including pagoda forms with characteristic upturned eaves suggesting cultural heritage, European-inspired shopfronts with striped commercial awnings evoking marketplace vitality, and fantastical structures where oversized teacups, mushroom forms, and anthropomorphized desserts function as inhabitable spaces, this eclectic architectural vocabulary unified through consistent scale relationships and shared material sensibility that emphasizes decorative surface pattern over tectonic expression. The character population distributed throughout these environments demonstrates sophisticated design system thinking, with simplified anthropomorphic figures rendered in contemporary cute aesthetic conventions featuring rounded body proportions, large heads with minimal facial features, and costume details that suggest individual personality while maintaining family resemblance across the entire cast, these figures engaged in activities suggesting social gathering, culinary transaction, leisurely promenade, and playful interaction that collectively construct narrative implications of communal celebration and cultural abundance. Thematically, the work appears to explore the transformation of commercial transaction into joyful ritual, the creation of third spaces where social connection flourishes through shared appreciation of craft and culinary culture, and the construction of idealized environments where architectural whimsy and human-scale warmth coexist without tension, suggesting perhaps that designed environments might serve not merely functional necessity but also deeper human needs for beauty, delight, community, and imaginative escape. The technical execution demonstrates professional command of digital illustration tools, with crisp edge definition throughout maintaining graphic clarity even as compositional density approaches maximum saturation, color fields applied with even digital smoothness, and decorative patterns deployed systematically to enliven surfaces without overwhelming form legibility. One might observe how the composition functions simultaneously as brand identity expression, environmental concept visualization, and narrative illustration, suggesting the increasingly fluid boundaries between commercial design disciplines in contemporary practice, while the sustained visual generosity evident in countless delightful peripheral details speaks to design philosophy that values abundance over minimalist reduction, invitation over exclusion, and the creation of visual environments that reward extended contemplation and repeated viewing with ever-new discoveries.

- Production Technology
- This design incorporates warm materials like wood, rice beads, yarn, and embroidery. Laser-engraved patterns on wood draw inspiration from deity attire, while the dragon-scale bookbinding symbolizes faith. Wrapped in a scroll, it emphasizes tradition. The wooden sliding box, inspired by temple architecture, merges traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Inside, button sets, booklets, and cards rest in smooth wood, reinforcing the cultural narrative.
- Design Challenge
- The challenge was making temple culture relevant to young people through buttons, merging tradition with modern aesthetics. We balanced cultural symbolism with contemporary appeal while ensuring precision in wood engraving, embroidery, and beadwork. Limited access to historical records and traditional techniques required careful adaptation. Additionally, designing a packaging system that felt both authentic and functional added complexity to the process.
- Project Duration
- The project started in July 2024 in Taiwan and was completed in April 2025 in New Taipei City.
- Operation Flow
- This design blends modern aesthetics with traditional culture, allowing users to engage with heritage in a contemporary way. The button set and booklet invite exploration of the deities' meanings while forming a personal connection. The wooden packaging opens smoothly, revealing the items and offering a tactile experience. This fusion of tradition and modern visuals sparks emotional connections, making it appealing to younger generations.
- Research
- This research explores how buttons can serve as a bridge between traditional temple culture and modern life. The study aimed to understand young people's perceptions of temple traditions and their willingness to engage with cultural symbols. Using surveys and interviews, data was collected from individuals interested in design and cultural heritage. Findings revealed that tactile, personal objects enhance emotional connection. This insight guided the use of wood, embroidery, and beading to create a warm, intimate interaction with the design.
- Inspiration
- As younger generations drift from temple culture, preserving its history and faith becomes increasingly challenging. Drawing from the connection between "temples × buttons," we see buttons as symbols of bonding and connection, reflecting the emotional essence of faith. Through design, we create cultural products that blend seamlessly into daily life, making tradition more accessible and engaging for modern audiences.

Design Interview about Button Blessings Brand Design
The main principle behind my design is to blend traditional culture with modern aesthetics, creating a meaningful connection between the past and present. Inspired by [specific cultural elements or themes], the design aims to evoke emotion and tell a story that resonates with today’s audience, while honoring heritage and craftsmanship. It focuses on simplicity, symbolism, and functionality to make the design both beautiful and relevant.
My main focus in designing this work was core design goal, such as conveying cultural values, enhancing user experience, or creating emotional connections. I especially wanted to achieve specific objectives, such as making traditional elements more relevant to modern life, inspiring audience resonance, or breaking conventional design boundaries. Overall, I aimed for the design to be both meaningful and engaging, capturing attention and leaving a lasting impression.
My future plans are to use this award-winning design to build credibility and reach a wider audience. I aim to apply it in real projects and continue improving based on feedback.
It took our team about half a year to complete this design concept from the initial idea to the final version.
We designed this concept based on our own inspiration and interest. It was not commissioned; rather, we wanted to explore and express ideas that are meaningful to us and relevant to contemporary culture.
Currently, we plan to produce the design ourselves. We have no agreements with other companies to sell or lease the production rights at this time.
We designed this particular type of work because it connects traditional culture with modern life in a meaningful way.
No, there were no other designers involved, but we took inspiration from traditional temple carvings for reference.
The target customers for this design are young people who are interested in traditional culture but prefer modern and practical items.
This design stands out because it combines traditional temple culture with modern, wearable buttons, creating a unique blend that is both meaningful and practical for today’s youth.
The name was chosen to reflect the connection between traditional blessings and everyday life. It symbolizes how ancient beliefs can be carried and shared through a simple, modern object like a button.
We used Procreate and Adobe Illustrator for the design work.
The most unique aspect of our design is how it blends traditional temple culture with modern aesthetics in a simple and meaningful way.
Our team collaborated closely on this design. We worked mainly with designers in our team and consulted temple experts to ensure cultural accuracy. No external specialized technical partners were involved.
Technology played a supporting role in creating this design. We used digital tools like Procreate and Adobe Illustrator to develop and refine the visuals, making the design process more efficient and precise.
Our design was not directly influenced by data or analytical research. Instead, we based it on cultural observation and studying traditional temple carvings to ensure authenticity and respect for heritage.
One challenge was balancing traditional elements with modern aesthetics to appeal to younger audiences while respecting cultural heritage. Another was ensuring the design worked well as a button, both functionally and visually.
We wanted to share our design with a broader audience and test its impact on an international scale. Participating in a respected competition like the A' Design Award also allows us to gain valuable feedback and recognition from experts worldwide.
During the design process, I learned to balance traditional cultural elements with modern aesthetics more effectively. It also improved my teamwork and communication skills, as our team collaborated closely to bring the concept to life.
One important aspect is how this design aims to connect younger generations with traditional culture in a fresh and approachable way. We hope it can inspire more people to appreciate and engage with heritage through everyday objects.
