About Fenjiu Jujiang Lingqiong Packaging
Fenjiu Jujiang Lingqiong is a packaging design for a Chinese baijiu spirit. The mountain shaped outer cover recalls the Luliang Mountains, the birthplace of the brand, and can be lifted to reach the bottle inside. The bottle has a small mouth and a pointed base, a form used in Chinese baijiu making about six thousand years ago. The bottle is shaped by hand in ceramic and finished with a gemstone glaze. The outer packaging uses platinum crystal and high temperature metal coloring. The sculptural form allows viewing from all sides.
Wen Liu's Fenjiu Jujiang Lingqiong Packaging emerges from the intersection of ancestral ceramic traditions and contemporary luxury design practice, presenting a remarkable synthesis wherein the vessel form itself becomes both functional container and sculptural meditation on cultural continuity. The design demonstrates exceptional compositional intelligence through its layered construction, where an amphora-inspired ceramic vessel, distinguished by its warm terracotta surface treatment and pointed base suggestive of ancient storage jars, floats within a transparent crystalline housing that transforms at its upper register into an abstracted mountainscape, the undulating ridgeline traced in luminous rose-gold metallic that catches and redistributes light with elegant restraint. The technical achievement lies in the dialogue between opacity and transparency, between the tactile earthiness of the central vessel and the immaterial crystalline quality of its protective shell, creating visual depth that invites prolonged contemplation from multiple viewing angles. The inscribed archaic characters appearing across the transparent surface establish textual presence without overwhelming the compositional balance, their ghostly translucence suggesting ancient manuscripts viewed through layers of time. The chromatic sophistication manifests through the carefully calibrated relationship between warm earth tones, predominantly in the burnt sienna and raw umber range, and the cool neutral reflections of the outer housing, with the golden accent providing thermal mediation that unifies the palette. One observes how the pointed vessel base and the mountain peaks create a visual rhyme, linking earthbound craft traditions with elevated natural forms in a gesture that seems to suggest the origins of fermentation craft within specific geographical and cultural landscapes. The packaging transcends mere product protection to become an object of contemplation, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between ancient techniques and contemporary aesthetics, between contained liquid and containing vessel, between craft heritage and luxury presentation.

- Design Challenge
- During the initial prototyping phase, the product faced significant challenges. The core difficulty lay in the historically unstable firing process for the pointed-bottom bottle, an issue long known for its extremely low yield that has consistently challenged the industry. Through dozens of systematic refinements to the production process, the team ultimately achieved a successful firing.
