About Astrifer Earrings

Astrifer is a pair of earrings made with natural freshwater pearls and cubic zirconia. The design conceals the metal connectors, so the pearls and stones appear to float around the ear. The main structure is made of S925 silver and is polished to a mirror finish. Three holes at different heights let the wearer select the position that suits the shape and size of the earlobe, for a secure and comfortable fit. A triple layer of nickel plating, thick gold plating and nano sealing improves resistance to wear and discoloration.

Suhan Wang's Astrifer Earrings exemplify a distinguished approach to contemporary pearl jewelry that harmonizes organic material beauty with deliberate architectural intervention, creating adornments that transcend mere decoration to become wearable contemplations on celestial wonder and earthly elegance. The design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of asymmetrical composition, pairing a compact pearl stud featuring vertically stacked diamond accents with an elaborate ear climber whose serpentine metal pathway connects multiple pearls at varying heights, establishing visual dialogue between simplicity and complexity, groundedness and movement. This asymmetry, far from creating imbalance, generates dynamic equilibrium that rewards extended visual engagement while accommodating contemporary preferences for jewelry that invites personal interpretation in wearing arrangement. The technical execution reveals masterful attention to pearl selection and matching, each specimen exhibiting the deep luster and subtle color play characteristic of premium cultured pearls, while the metalwork demonstrates precision fabrication in the smooth, uninterrupted curves of the climber wire and the secure, minimal settings of the diamond accents. The integration of brilliant-cut diamonds serves both aesthetic and structural purposes, their placement marking rhythmic intervals along the composition while providing points of concentrated light that dialogue with the softer, more diffused luminosity of the pearls. Thematically, the work appears to explore correspondences between celestial bodies and precious materials, the Latin-rooted name suggesting star-bearing qualities that find visual expression in the constellation-like arrangement of luminous elements against implied darkness. The piece participates in long traditions of pearl veneration across cultures while proposing distinctly contemporary formal solutions, inviting consideration of how ancient associations between pearls, moonlight, and feminine beauty might be reinterpreted through modern design sensibilities. What narratives of celestial connection and personal radiance might these earrings inscribe upon their wearer?

Production Technology
Natural freshwater pearls and premium cubic zirconia are used for a dynamic, brilliant aesthetic. The main structure made from S925 silver ensures structural stability and wearing comfort, and undergoes a polishing process for a mirror finish to achieve a dynamic play of light and shadow. A triple layer technique, consisting of nickel plating, thick genuine gold plating, and nano sealing, significantly improves resistance to wear and discoloration, enabling the product to remain new over time.
Design Challenge
The core challenge was how to achieve a floating visual effect through a minimalist structure while concealing metal connectors. Astrifer innovatively adopts a bent structure, as well as three holes varying in height. This ensures a secure fit, and supports precise adjustment based on earlobe shapes and sizes, seamlessly concealing metal connectors and allowing pearls and cubic zirconia to appear as if floating around the ear.
Project Duration
The project started in Shanghai, China in January, 2024, and completed in April, 2024.
Operation Flow
Astrifer comes with three holes varying in height, allowing wearers to flexibly select based on their earlobe shapes and sizes. This thoughtful design ensures a snug yet comfortable fit, and enables metal connectors to be perfectly concealed behind the ear. As a result, the product can present an elegantly floating visual effect for every wearer, minimalist and dynamic
Research
Considering that the pearljewelry market is increasingly dominated by young consumers, the design team has been dedicated to expanding the application of pearl jewelry from traditional socializing to daily living by balancing aesthetic appeal, wearing comfort, and practical functionality. Guided by the idea of less is more, Astrifer innovates a floating design, exquisite, dynamic, and unique with a sense of lightness, catering to working professionals and users who prefer understated elegance.
Inspiration
As the designer paused before the glass facade of a shopping mall, she noticed how the streetlights reflected on the face of a mannequin, where the glimmering spots were like the finishing highlights of an oil painting and the reflections flickered like scattered stars. From that fleeting moment, Astrifer features cubic zirconia and pearls to symbolize dazzling sparkles and gentle reflections. Through a scattered arrangement and a floating form, it evokes the enchantment of the urban nightscape.
