About Alma Residence Private Villa
Alma Residence is a private villa designed for a family in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The villa is organized around a central core, a double height indoor space that all rooms face. The core is placed to receive solar exposure and natural ventilation, bringing light and warmth into the whole house. Open plan layouts and further double height spaces are framed by a sequence of arches in varied sizes. The villa covers 1800 square meters on a plot of 3256 square meters. AutoCAD, 3ds Max and Adobe Photoshop were used for planning, modeling and rendering.
Fayez Jazmati's Alma Residence Private Villa demonstrates sophisticated engagement with enduring architectural traditions while addressing contemporary residential aspirations through a design language that honors classical Mediterranean and Middle Eastern spatial typologies, particularly the courtyard house model that has organized domestic life across arid climates for millennia, translating these time-tested principles into a generous contemporary villa that balances formal grandeur with intimate human-scaled environments. The compositional achievement of this design resides in its skillful orchestration of multiple interconnected zones, each possessing distinct volumetric character yet unified through consistent material vocabulary and proportional discipline, where the prominent barrel-vaulted pavilion establishes a memorable architectural gesture referencing Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic precedents while maintaining contemporary spatial openness through extensive glazing that dissolves traditional mass, and where flanking rectilinear volumes provide geometric counterpoint through their planar severity and horizontal emphasis, creating dynamic tension that enriches the overall composition. The chromatic restraint evident in the warm neutral masonry palette allows architectural form and spatial relationships to command primary attention while providing a serene backdrop for inhabitation, with strategic deployment of darker glazing and timber accents establishing visual hierarchy and material variety without fragmenting the unified reading. Technically, the design demonstrates accomplished integration of structural systems supporting the vaulted forms with contemporary transparency requirements, achieving the delicate balance between enclosure and openness that defines successful contemporary residential design in climates demanding both environmental protection and outdoor living opportunities. The landscape architecture contributes essential softening of built geometries through carefully positioned lawn panels, planted borders, and peripheral screening that mediates between the private domestic realm and its broader context, while hardscape elements including timber decking and aggregate paving establish circulatory networks and outdoor living zones that extend the functional and experiential territory of the residence beyond its enclosed envelope. The design invites contemplation of how classical architectural elements and spatial typologies developed over centuries within specific cultural and environmental contexts continue to offer relevant frameworks for contemporary design when thoughtfully interpreted, adapted, and integrated with modern technical capabilities and lifestyle patterns. One might observe how the interplay between solid and void, between enclosure and transparency, between formal geometry and organic landscape elements creates layered spatial experiences that reward both distant viewing and intimate inhabitation, suggesting that architectural meaning emerges not merely from formal gestures but from the orchestration of relationships between built form, natural elements, light, shadow, and the human presence that ultimately animates these carefully crafted spaces.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- The main structure of this villa is evolved around a central core; where most of the family activities will be, this core was studied carefully to get a healthy solar exposure with a well ventilation that gives the whole villa a source of light, warmth and energy.
With an open space planning and multiple double height spaces, wrapped by a sequence of elegant arches in variant sizes, yet harmonious with each other and well blended with the internal spaces, all helped in creating a simple cozy yet luxurious elegant home, inside and outside. - Dimensions & Packaging
- Plot area: 3256 m2
Plot dimensions: 71m x 45.8 m
Built up areas:
Villa = 1800 m2
Guard room + car garage: 60 m2 - Production Technology
- The project was done using AutoCad for space planning and 3DS max for 3D modeling and rendering with Adobe Photoshop for the after effect.
- Design Challenge
- One of the most demanding and complex space planning that blended all in harmony together
- Project Duration
- Project Duration: 8 Months
Project Location: UAE - Abu Dhabi - MBZ City - Operation Flow
- Designing this project was done by 1st identifying the general design objectives of the project and taking a step by step approach in the design process, starting from the general zoning allocation, to circulation analysis and general connection points reaching to the overall space planning and final 3D model was a result of these careful studies.
- Inspiration
- ALMA: The name derived from the Latin and Spanish words
for soul and nourishing, reflects a place where the
heart and spirit are cared for.
The design concept was based on giving the building a breathable heart "The central core" which was the double height indoor space which all the villa rooms were directed towards it, it was designed to be the source of light and energy for the whole villa.
