About Bank Julius Baer Festive Gift
Inspired by the peacock and red crowned crane, this limited edition Chinese New Year collection translates two revered symbols into a unified design. The ensemble includes a premium tote with signature twilly, a pouch, red packets arranged as a bird and flower composition, and a scroll card. A refined palette of vivid red, subtle gold, and blue pink moire balances festive vibrancy with understated sophistication, elevating functional objects into decorative art.
Rose Lee and Ernie Keung's Bank Julius Baer Festive Gift emerges from a distinguished lineage of ceremonial presentation objects where the container itself becomes an integral component of the gift's meaning and value, transcending mere functional packaging to embody cultural narratives of goodwill, prosperity, and enduring connection. The designers have orchestrated a sophisticated dialogue between contemporary luxury sensibilities and time-honored decorative vocabularies, selecting the crane as their central symbolic protagonist, a creature whose associations with longevity, fidelity, and grace have resonated across diverse cultures for millennia. The technical accomplishment reveals itself in the seamless integration of multiple surface treatments: the primary illustration appears printed or woven onto the structured canvas body with remarkable tonal gradation, while the silk scarves introduce contrasting tactile luxury and secondary chromatic voices that complement rather than compete with the dominant red field. Compositionally, the work demonstrates acute understanding of visual hierarchy, positioning the standing crane as the gravitational center while allowing secondary elements including the flying companion, twisted branches, and clustered blossoms to create rhythmic counterpoint across the picture plane. The deliberate choice of a warm, enveloping red serves multiple functions simultaneously: it activates associations with celebration and auspicious beginnings, provides chromatic unity despite illustrative complexity, and establishes immediate emotional warmth upon encounter. The paired handles, each wrapped in distinct yet harmonizing silk gradients, suggest thoughtful attention to the ceremonial moment of receiving and carrying, transforming practical necessity into aesthetic opportunity. One might consider how this object occupies a fascinating position between art object and functional vessel, inviting contemplation of how material generosity expresses itself through careful design stewardship.

- Project Duration
- January 2026 in Singapore and Hong Kong
- Operation Flow
- The recipient's journey starts with branded packaging. Inside, a Chinese scroll (the greeting card) sets the cultural tone. Unfolding next, the tote reveals a twilly on its handle, wearable multiple ways. The coordinating pouch encourages daily use, while the red packets' splicing design forms a bird and flower tableau when displayed together. The key innovation, these practical gifts transform into decorative art, the tote, pouch, twilly, and envelopes can be arranged as a museum like display, with the scroll kept or unfurled as wall art.
- Research
- Using visual cultural analysis, archival research, audits, and 20 interviews in Singapore and Hong Kong, the study identified auspicious symbols beyond zodiac signs and client gifting preferences. Peacock (boundless promise) and crane (longevity) motifs resonated. Clients favored usable, transformative items (tote, pouch), personalizable accessories (twilly), and displayable art (scroll, spliced packets). Enduring gifts increase perceived thoughtfulness and prolong seasonal exposure.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by Chinese mythology and ink wash art, this collection blends cultural symbolism with Swiss precision. The peacock embodies "boundless promise" for youth; the red-crowned crane symbolizes longevity for elders. A twilly wrapped handle nods to luxury scarf traditions, while the scroll format updates ancient scholarly gifting. Merging these elements with precision craftsmanship, the designs honour heritage while appealing to global clients who appreciate understated elegance.
