A beer label design in Art Nouveau style. The beer label also contains many details about the brewing process. The design also fits on two different bottles. This can be done simply by printing the design on 100 percent display and 70 percent size. The label is connected to a database, which ensures that each bottle receives a unique filling number.

Interview with Egwin Wilterdink on Carnetel Beer Label

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
I wanted to deviate from all 'standard' beer labels. The art movement Art noveau is a great source of inspiration for this design
What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
I wanted to make a nostalgic label. A label that exuded craftsmanship.
What made you design this particular type of work?
I brew beer for myself, and therefore wanted to have a nice label.
What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
More information about the brewing process is given. The label has a traditional styl / handicraft.
How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
The name is fictional and self-created. It sounds like a beer coming from the country of Belgium. In the Netherlands, people then get the idea that they are drinking special beer.
Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
Thirst i draw the concept on paper. Then i scanned the drawing and draw it in Adobe Illustrator. Finally i finished it in Indesign, with a connection to a database.
What is the role of technology in this particular design?
It is connected to a datase. This gives the bottles a unique number. The first bottle to be printed is given bottle number 1. The next number 2.
What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
The difficult thing was to get a good harmony between the shapes and colors on the label.
How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
I have been invited by A 'Design Award & Competition by mail. Here I was asked to participate for award consideration.
What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
I had to be very patient with this development. If I would finish this too soon. Then you get standard square planes.
