About Hailuo In-Ear Headphone
Hailuo is a packaging design created for an in-ear headphone. Instead of showing a product photograph, the packaging presents an image of a sliced nautilus shell with the headphone placed inside the spiral cavity. The spiral form of the shell is linked to the resonance of sound. The whole image is embossed on the surface to give the nautilus a real feeling. Silver paper with black ink gives the package a low sparkle that suggests advanced technology. The draw-out box holds two layers, so the headphone and its wires are seen first and the accessories rest below.
Positioned within the evolving tradition of premium consumer electronics packaging, this presentation for an in-ear headphone by Xiaomi demonstrates how contemporary design practice increasingly draws upon natural mathematical forms to communicate values of harmony, precision, and organic elegance. The nautilus shell, rendered here as a deeply embossed relief element dominating the box lid, references one of nature's most celebrated manifestations of the logarithmic spiral, a form that has captivated artists, mathematicians, and designers across centuries for its demonstration of proportional relationships approaching the golden ratio. The design team appears to have recognized that packaging serves as the first physical touchpoint between product and consumer, transforming this utilitarian protective container into an object of contemplation and aesthetic significance. The monochromatic palette of deep grays and charcoals speaks to current design sensibilities that favor restraint over chromatic exuberance, allowing material quality and dimensional articulation to carry the visual narrative. The precision of the embossing technique rewards close examination, with each chamber of the spiral shell articulated through subtle relief that creates shifting patterns of light and shadow as viewing angle changes. This approach to packaging design participates in a broader movement recognizing that sustainable luxury often manifests through material refinement and conceptual depth rather than excessive ornamentation or resource consumption. The choice of the nautilus specifically may evoke associations with acoustic phenomena, as the shell's chambered structure has historically been understood as nature's amplification system, creating a poetic connection between container design and the audio product within. The viewer might consider how the spiral form, with its suggestion of infinite expansion from a central point, mirrors the experience of immersive listening where music unfolds temporally from silence into complexity and back again.

- Unique Properties
- Mi Quad Driver In-Ear Headphone adopts the advanced technology of hybrid quad drivers, 2 dynamic drivers, and 2 balanced armatures. The headphones have the ability to deliver clear, delicate and multi-dimensional sound. Instead of showing the product image, the packaging design embeds the product into a nautilus shell to highlight the prominent sound effect of this headphone.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- Package size(L x W x H):210 x 135 x 58mm
- Tags
- Headphone, shell, black, packaging, technology
- Production Technology
- The packaging uses emboss on the image. It also uses silver paper with black ink.
- Design Challenge
- Due to the number of accessories and wires, the draw outbox structurally contains two layers. What jumps into eyes first are the headphones and its wires once you open the box, while accessories including the Bluetooth adapter are laying in the second layer. By doing this, the integrity and simplicity of the box can be immensely ensured.
- Project Duration
- December 2019 Beijing and finished in February in Beijing, China.
- Operation Flow
- To make the real feeling of the nautilus, the whole image embossed on the surface. The silver paper with black ink gives the packaging a low sparkle to indicate high technology feelings.
- Research
- Mi Quad Driver In-Ear Headphone adopts the advanced technology of hybrid quad drivers, 2 dynamic drivers, and 2 balanced armatures. Through the accurate frequency calibration at three frequencies, which are low, medium and high frequencies, the headphones have the ability to deliver clear, delicate and multidimensional sound. Instead of showing the product image, the packaging design embeds the product into a nautilus shell to highlight the prominent sound effect of this Headphone.
- Inspiration
- A nautilus shell consists of a spiral inner cavity that could resonate sound. Therefore, this packaging uses an image of a sliced nautilus shell with a headphone embedded in it that associate with the prominent sound effect.
