Interview with Jeff Ching-Wen Chang

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
I love drawing since I was a child. And I keep it as an interest during the time of studying at school. I graduated from National Kaohsiung Normal University with the bachelor degree in industrial design in KAOHSIUNG / TAIWAN.
What is "design" for you?
"| Everything | = Design." Design is an absolute value sign for designers, we can create positive future and life through design.
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Create the product that can improve the life of people and also be environment-friendly.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Design is life, is everywhere around us. "| Everything | = Design." I think the future of design is Future Lifestyle for Now.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
2017, "90 Deg", Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 / Young Designers’ Exhibition, TAIPEI / TAIWAN.
What was your most important job experience?
During my internship in GeckoDesign, the director brought me with him to go on a business trip to Tianjin, China to work on the industrial accessory for the E-scooter of Yadea E-vehicle.
What are your future plans? What is next for you?
I'm preparing for studying in France for the master degree in industrial design.

Designer of the Day Interview with Jeff Ching-Wen Chang

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
I hold a bachelor degree of Industrial Design from NKNU. I learned how to think and practice as a designer in my university, and with the internship in design studio, I knowed much important skills in the professional field. Every time when I deal with a new case, I'll think if there is a better way to redefine or solve the problem with a brand new thinking involves.
How did you become a designer?
I love the question which has much way of solutions to answer, and this is why I choose to be a designer. Cause I find it pretty interesting when there is a same question for all the people, and there are always different solutions for it. The way of thinking differently appeals me a lot while I love to looking for the answer from diverse aspects of visions.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
I prefer to draw sketches with making the prototypes. By this method, I can develop and revise these two at the same time. And to find out what is the great point for the next step of development.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Trying is the most interesting part when I do the project. Only by making the prototype so that we can know how the idea on the paper or in the brain goes. During the time of testing, there will be lots of faults, might be depressing, but also can learn something new from them.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
I love reading and watching films, and they wide my eyes with different ways. I can get the vision and experience from them while learning how to think by not just as me.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
I have learned a lot of knowledge by the projects I did before, and asking the professionals is very helpful too. I would like to finish my master degree of design in France. I will be glad to working for the design studios and luxury brands in the future.

Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?
I choose the field that there is no absolute answer to the question. Design can be anything possible and the only limit is your imagination. A job which is full of challenge and fun, why not take an adventure and play around to be a designer?
Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?
I chose to major in industrial design as bachelor degree in my university, and I love it!
What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?
I would like to create the objects with smart and interesting feature in the multi field.
How do you define design, what is design for you?
Design is life, is everywhere around us. "| Everything | = Design."
How does design help create a better society?
When it can be able to solve the problem for people and meet the need of people.
Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?
"RONA" A Chair of Multiple Sitting Postures. I spent months of time making a full size model in the factory and took a set of photograph.
