Interview with Oron Milshtein

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
Since I was a child I always love art, I started to paint when I was 5 years old, since then I know that I will be a designer
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
It’s a boutique studio, we do interior design and architecture, we create a special projects in Israel and abroad
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
Modern design , I get a lot of inspiration from the bauhaus movement
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
The first project that I design when I finish my degree was flagship for men’s clothing company that call “sketch” the store is located in Tel-Aviv
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
Space perception, connection to the concept and the way they used the materials in the project
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
The last exhibition was in Tel Aviv , I hope the next exhibition will be in London or maybe Asia
Where do you live? Do you feel the cultural heritage of your country affects your designs? What are the pros and cons during designing as a result of living in your country?
I leave near to Tel Aviv, the industry of design in my country are growing fast , we work a lot of hours and create faster ,in my culture it’s always feel that you don’t have enough time :)
How do you work with companies?
Concept > design> branding etc... I believe in total design
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
My favorite items are : Dior Homme tray ,gold master chairs by Kartell, black tables by glas Italia , artemide floor lamp , church side table Cassina by jaimie hayon
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
Positive: create new things. Negative: hate when people doing “copy paste “
Which tools do you use during design? What is inside your toolbox? Such as software, application, hardware, books, sources of inspiration etc.?
Every project start in a different way , sometimes it’s 3D , one time it’s can be college it’s depends on the project
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
I always design when I have an inspiration mood , if I don’t feel it , I leave the computer and come back later , I’m not forcing on the design
What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
How do I know to combine between colors and texture, and can imagine the combination
What was your most important job experience?
To work with apple Israel , i designed store that call istore (collaboration with apple)

Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?
I have a B.design academic degree and now I finish my architecture degree
Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?
Its chosen me , since I was a child I know that I work with art
What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?
I do a lots of apartments , the next things will be design hotels and collections of accessories for home
What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?
Do not compromise and if you don’t have a choice find the way that you design will stay with your agenda
What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?
Chair for Kartell or accessories for Alessi, I love those brands
What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?
my apparent , i think because of the smart details that i created
What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?
People that afraid from my vision, because they want standard things
How do you think designers should present their work?
In the best way they can do , when you do a presentation it doesn’t matter if it’s for small project or big
How does design help create a better society?
It is , I always love to see my clients when we finish the project and the love the final result, it’s feel that you create small change in people’s life
What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?
It’s all about the right dosage of materials and colors, and that’s what came out of successful outcomes
What do you wish people to ask about your design?
About the details, I think that what made the project more interesting
Which books you read had the most effect on your design?
It’s combination of Tom Ford , Andy Warhol and David lachapelle books
What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?
We don’t do nothing, we have computers and robots that will do everything, I think it will be boring
