We are “Taste of the Old Time Memories”, a team which dedicated to create the chatting topics between generations, focus on Taiwanese old-time memory items. We can not only evoke the elders’ memories by guiding them to recall the past, but also can increase the young’s knowledge. In the aged society, only if the young can cherish the elders and respect them, the gap between generations can be eliminated, become closer and improve the family’s ambience!

Interview with Yi-Rong Li

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
We are from different high school departments: arts, advertising design, and general high school. We came to Yunke University's Department of Visual Communication. We have more than 4 years of experience in design, all because we love art and design As a member, our three ambitions and areas of expertise are also different. We will not necessarily become designers in the future, but there are many complementary areas in this cooperation.
What is "design" for you?
Design is the act of serving the society and beautifying the environment!
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
I am most concerned about the quality and vitality of the design, hoping to provide works with good quality and pleasing to the eye, while being warm and bringing energy to users!
What kind of emotions do you feel when you design?
I will be excited! Because in the design process, we will work hard to make the works match the look of ourselves and our customers. We hope that we will design and like the works carefully, so that customers can like it!
What kind of emotions do you feel when your designs are realized?
A great sense of accomplishment! Because I feel that I have completed another big event! Seeing that his work is liked by people, I am very satisfied!
What makes a design successful?
The picture that can be understood at a glance and the concept of perseverance, power, and current affairs!
From your point of view, what are the responsibilities of a designer for society and environment?
Integrate the data or unit elements, and then beautify and organize to make the society and the environment clean and have a sense of beauty and vitality.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Continue to create new values, receive new things, new technologies and organize them, and then display them neatly and beautifully.
When was your last exhibition and where was it? And when do you want to hold your next exhibition?
The last exhibition was exhibited at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Douliu, Yunlin, Taiwan. The next exhibition will be on-campus exhibition on May 5, 2020!
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
Our style is nostalgic. Through the investigation of the elderly in Taiwan and the local atmosphere of Taiwan, we explore the ancient style of Taiwan and combine it with our cute hand-painted style to make the whole retro but vivid.
From your perspective, what would you say are some positives and negatives of being a designer?
The positive effect of becoming a designer is to make better designs, and will use this as a motivation to continuously improve myself, but relatively little time is available to spend time with family and business feelings.
Designing can sometimes be a really time consuming task, how do you manage your time?
Develop an itinerary, plan the progress of the day every day, and leave a little time for yourself to be less tired.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?
We are studying in Yunlin, Taiwan, and the Department of Visual Communication Design of National Yunlin University of Science and Technology will graduate in June this year. The three of us graduated from different departments: arts, advertising, and general high school. Taking art, design and other related courses, the design learning experience is up to 10 years.
How did you become a designer?
Because I have always been interested in fine arts and art, and I have some ideas and ideas that I want to develop, I realized the design and chose to start studying, hoping to put our ideas into practice and apply them to various fields and serve the public.
What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?
The first focus is on concepts, because concepts are the key to determining the charm of a work. Next is the quality of the work. Good quality can be recognized, and you can improve your professionalism and grow faster. Finally, there is style. When expressing ideas and themes, matching the appropriate style can efficiently achieve the goal and make the work and concept more consistent.
Which emotions do you feel when designing?
Different stages of the design will have different emotions. It is the most difficult time to think about the concept, so it is also the most annoying time, but if you decide on an excellent concept, you will be full of sense of accomplishment, and look forward to revealing it to everyone. I will be very excited to complete the work and feel that I have completed a major event and hope to serve the society effectively.
What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?
Observation enables us to become designers. By observing the stories around us, we can discover the problems and emotions in it, which can be transformed into design inspiration and practice the design that best suits life.
What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?
We hope to develop our expertise, work in various design fields, actively participate in and accumulate works, meet like-minded designers, and open a broader path for ourselves.
What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?
Since we are also new design graduates, we want to say to young people who are also struggling to work hard: stick to the design dream! Find out the field that suits you, overcome difficulties, and brave to continue!
You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?
Observe the surroundings of your life and you will find surprises and inspirations!
What is your day to day look like?
I like to watch the scenery outside the window in the morning, take a deep breath, start work after taking care of myself, and like to review everything in the day after finishing work, think about the problems found, and find the answer, I will be happy and more powerful to meet tomorrow!
How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?
I usually like to watch design websites, find inspiration and find innovation from other designers' works.
How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?
Reasonable and innovative concepts can determine the value of design works. As long as the concepts convince people and visually make people impress or surprise, it will be excellent design!
How do you decide if your design is ready?
When the design makes me satisfied, comfortable, and liked by the client, I will assume that it is complete.
What is your biggest design work?
"Taste of the Old Times" is our biggest design at present, because it is a graduation project that brings us together and develops this theme, which is also the most accomplished.
Who is your favourite designer?
I admire the artist Mucha. His Art Nouveau style is elegant and elegant, and it is still very attractive!
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
I live in Taiwan, a country full of human touch. Through the series connection of people, many stories can occur. Through these stories, surprises and contradictions can be discovered. Through design, we can tailor solutions for it and make the design in society. Play value.
Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?
I hope to work with a group of people with ideas. It would be great if I could have the same interest! Become friends with partners and share design ideas and grow together.
What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?
Actively look for contradictions and difficulties in society, care for the disadvantaged, and make them stronger through design to benefit everyone.
What positive experiences you had when you attend the A’ Design Award?
Among the three benefits, the first is to test the strength of the work and understand its maximum value. Second, aiming at awards and competitions can form motivation and create continuously. Third, it can make more people see the work and give the society the opportunity to use it.

How do you decide if your design is ready?
Deeply influenced by Hayao Miyazaki, I really like the magic princess, growing up like Fujisuke, looking forward to the space that blends with nature.
Who is your favourite designer?
Good at illustration, able to accurately grasp the charm of the character, let people smile or feel the different emotions of the character.
Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?
Look at design works more often, subscribe to accounts related to design and brand selection, take a look at daily.

Continue to explore the path of design, try to combine with your own talents, and do cross-disciplinary development in design.

Design is to find surprises and new ideas in ordinary and daily life, to meet the feelings or needs of others.
