About Kanglaibo Resort Hotel

Kanglaibo is the interior design of a resort hotel located in the Baianshan National Forest Park in Jiangxi Province, China. The hotel is a single building of 16,000 square meters with 19 floors. The first floor holds the lobby, bar and breakfast restaurant, floors two to four hold dining and meeting spaces, and floors five to nineteen hold guest rooms and suites. Hakka culture guides the interior, with local stone, ceramics and traditional woodcut artworks. A temperature controlled water system serves the hot spring baths and saves natural hot spring resources.

Legang Sun, Songtao Meng, and Xiaoxue Ai's Kanglaibo Resort Hotel lobby represents a distinguished achievement in contemporary hospitality interior design, demonstrating how monumental scale and intimate human comfort may coexist through thoughtful spatial orchestration and material sensitivity. The design team has created a threshold experience that positions guests within an environment of measured grandeur, where the commanding suspended light installation functions as both architectural focal point and symbolic gesture of welcome, its thousands of individual light points suggesting a galaxy captured within geometric order or perhaps the play of light through crystalline formations found in nature. The technical accomplishment of the lighting element merits particular attention, as the precisely calibrated grid structure creates optical effects that shift with viewing angle, appearing alternately as solid luminous volume, transparent veil, or dynamic particle field depending on one's position within the space. The material palette demonstrates sophisticated restraint, with warm-toned stone flooring establishing an earthbound foundation while the vertical wood-clad columns create rhythmic punctuation that guides the eye upward toward the floating light sculpture, suggesting an aspirational journey from grounded materiality toward ethereal illumination. The furnishing arrangement invites pause and congregation, the deep blue seating providing both color accent and functional comfort within the expansive volume, while the background display wall introduces a sense of domestic curation that softens the monumental scale. The design appears to engage with traditions of creating awe-inspiring entry sequences while maintaining the warmth and accessibility essential to hospitality environments. Visitors might contemplate how the interplay between massive architectural gesture and intimate seating arrangement reflects broader questions about the relationship between spectacle and comfort in spaces designed for human gathering and rest.

Production Technology
The hotel is a single-family building with a construction area of 16,000 square meters and a height of 19 floors. The functional layout of the hotel is carried out in a vertical direction. The functional design focuses on the integrity of the hotel's supporting facilities and the comfort of the environment:
Floor 1: Front Hall, Service Desk, Lobby Bar, Breakfast Restaurant
Floor 2 to 4: Hotel Catering Area, Main Banuet Hall, Multi-funtion Hall, Conference Room
Floor 5 to 19: Guest Rooms, Deluxe Suites
Design Challenge
The hot spring bath in the air is the hotel's unique item.
To ensure the tourist experience while saving the natural hot spring resources, the designer set the inner wall of the bath at an angle of 70 degrees with the water level so that the total volume of the pool water is deducted. The exterior walls of the bath are insulated by asbestos layers and acrylics to decrease the cooling rate of the water. At the same time, he uses the intermittent way of adding water to form an effective water flow control system, which can save 40% of the hot spring resources compared with a similar bath.
Project Duration
Design Duration: March 2020 to June 2020
Date of Completion: October 2020
Project Address: Pu'er Yunnan, China
Operation Flow
The designer constructed a unique lighting system throughout the space.
The cubic water-featured chandelier in the center of the lobby, the streamlined chandeliers in the corridor, and the artistic lamps in different scenes become the visual focus of the hotel and fill the space with a three-dimensional feeling.

Inspiration
The inspiration comes from the Hakka culture in the area where the hotel is located. The unique square enclosed building pattern is one of the representative architectural symbols in Hakka culture. The designer used local stones and ceramics to create an enclosed space in the lobby.
At the same time, a large number of traditional Hakka woodcut artworks are used in the hotel, together with the local specialty water grainstone, forming a unique space temperament.
