Production Technology
Every single piece is hand stitched to confer an authentic look, confeccioned onto nude leather and tattoed with the use of tattoo machines and leather ink.
Coated with epoxi resin to be able to support wet objects without the worry of staining the table.
The design was developed based on the precepts of sustainability. That is why the table legs are disassembled and fitted on the back of the table for transportation, occupying less space, and by doing so, decreasing the need for fuel consumption.
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge was to choose the right material to use it. Especially the thickness of the leather, which couldn’t be too thin or it would not support the needles piercing through it without cutting it completely.
The kind of leather and type of needle we had to use it were also a challenge to discover.
The ink to be utilized to not react with the resin cover.
Last but not least, the concern about a way to ship the piece, occupying less space possible to be sustainable.
Project Duration
The Project had began in January 2021 and ended in February 2021 in Campinas, Sao Paulo.
Operation Flow
The table legs are easily assembled and disassembled to help on the transportation.
It can be used with wet objects, hot or cold without any problem.
Research
The research was, briefly, based on why people are tattooing each time more.
And as the tattoo culture is growing worldwide, it have never being used in the decoration field.
The second part of the research was about a certain style of drawning that would value the piece, but without diverging from the core of tattooing.
Finally, the third part of the research was about which materials to use, field of production, logistic, etc.
Inspiration
The main goal was to bring the tattoo language to the furniture field. Unite the art of tattoing with the production of utility parts, keeping the exclusivity of each piece.
Motivated by the social project they realize, which consists of covering scars with tattoo, the artists wanted to create a furniture that make people feel as fulfilled renovating their house as the people who cover up their scars with a tattoo do.
