About Sepanta Multifunctional Hall
Sepanta is a multifunctional hall designed for music, theater and opera on Kish Island. The form is inspired by the shells of the turtles that nest along the nearby coast. A smooth wavy surface recalls ocean waves and is made of glass fibre reinforced concrete. The suspended curved ceiling is built with space structures and rests over a glass curtain wall that opens the interior to the sea view. Triple glazing and a three layer ceiling reduce energy loss. The hall covers nearly 6000 square meters and seats about 1350 people.

- Unique Properties
- This multifunctional hall designed for music, theater and opera, the three most importance feature we can mention are , eye-catching forms of tortoise shells near the beach with special night lighting, We create a special modern form with suspended curved ceiling, which is laying over the glass curtain wall that gave us the benefit of the perfect ocean view, the most stunning aspect of this design is the smooth wavy surface which is completely associate with ocean wave.

- Production Technology
- The most important challenge for the construction of this hall is the suspended celling which is done with space structures and the smooth wavy surface is made of GFRC . In consider of the importance of energy conservation we provide triple glazed curtain wall which is the best choice for this climate and three layers celling to reduce waste of energy.
- Design Challenge
- The most difficult challenge we faced in this project was limitation as a result of turtles habitat which is located neighboring to our site and the untouched and special environment which should be stay as undamaged as we can.
- Project Duration
- The design of this project started on November 12, 2020 and was completed after three months, and its executive operation started on February 14, 2021, and the project plan for its completion is 18 months.
- Research
- When this project was referred to us, first of all, the environmental survey and research about the land on where this project is to be started began, and we came to interesting results in terms of environment and climate. The land was located near the coastal area. It was a spawning ground for rare turtles that were under environmental protection and also one of the most attractive and oldest inhabitants of the island, so we decided that the design would ultimately be inspired by these amazing creatures and be in harmony with the environment but a modern and architectural interpretation of turtles.
- Inspiration
- first of all turtles are the main species in Kish and they are preserve by the authority. This hall is an great symbol of these animals which is located near to their habitat however permissible limitation is intended, the design is inspired by the tortoise form and it has been tried to be a modern type of it.

“One of the reasons for choosing the turtle shell as inspiration for the design of the opera hall was that the nearest beach to the location is a protected nesting site for turtles. The importance of this issue, along with the elegant form of the turtle shell, led to this design decision.”
“The main challenge in constructing the roof form of the opera hall was determining the type of structure and its covering. After consulting with experts, it was ultimately decided to use a space frame structure with a tensile fabric covering.”
“Although the hall is located a few kilometers away from the turtle nesting site, efforts were made to select environmentally friendly materials. Additionally, the materials chosen were required to be resistant to humidity.”
“The use of solar panels, clean energy sources, and wind turbines—considering the wind speed on this side of Kish Island—is among the project’s environmental goals.”
“Given that Kish Island is a natural habitat and nesting ground for turtles, increasing construction on the island had led to a decline in attention to these animals. Through the design and construction of this hall, we aimed to redirect attention to these beautiful creatures and remind people that this is their home.”
