The cup is made of stainless steel 304 with excellent anti-corrosion and is formed into a beautiful shape by a metal spinning process. - Firstly, it took us a much time to find a factory in the town that would help produce our products.
After carefully sharing our brand story with them, we were able to find craftsmen and factories that were inspired by our vision and accepted our deal to start manufacturing.
It took a lot of time to design the joint between the detachable handle and the cup. We discussed about the shape with many craftsmen and considered to make the samples. - Project Duration

Consumers are satisfied not only by the design of the product itself, but by empathizing with the process and story of how the product was made. I’ve tried to approach the users with such process and story in my design. In Japan, the demand for outdoor recreation activities to get good air circulation such as camping has been increasing due to the global outbreak of the new coronavirus. Thanks to a special experience in the outdoor activities, you can be very relaxing, relieve stress, have memories with family, and get various precious moments. I hope the outdoor activities boom will not end up as a short-lived trend or consumption, and it will build a foundation for everyone to consider as a culture. For these leisure activities, my goal is to create premium products that will be popular for a long time and not be easily bored and thrown away. - Research
- While gazing out the sunset, we are looking forward to special outdoor dinner time with the dishware which is specially selected. Simple and beautiful shaped Stainless cup. Each piece is handmade meticulously, which makes food in the cup look so gorgeous. Original detachable handle is very unique so that it tickles the heart of guys who have playfulness. Once they try the mechanical design of handle, they can not help smiling. Having took over the skill to produce the sunsetclimax original metal cup, we have to carry it over to the next generation.

- The cup is designed for the Japanese outdoor gear brand sunsetclimax, aiming to create a beautiful and elegant shape that is worthy of the brand's concept of a Portable Getaway Villa. Furthermore, striving to provide a product that will be used for a long time, not just something to be consumed, we’ve made it with a simple and beautiful shape and durable materials that you will never get bored of looking at.
The sunsetclimax is not a mass-produced brand, but the one that focuses on quality even in small quantities. We have a lineup of products that utilize the skills of excellent Japanese craftsmen and our goal is to ensure Japanese craftsmanship will persist in the future, and to work for consumers who can enjoy products that are packed with these technologies. Products that can be used for a long time are eco-friendliest.

sunsetclimax is a brand I launched in 2014 and already has several lines of camping equipment.
All of sunsetclimax's camping equipment is simple, elegant and beautifully designed products.
I wanted to create a vessel for eating that would fit the sunsetclimax brand image, which is what inspired me to design this metal cup.

It is a combination of beauty and functionality. A seamless form of the vessel that does not collect dirt, and a detachable handle to prevent bulkiness when storing.
In addition, since the vessel may be directly placed over a fire when camping, the detachable handle prevents the handle from getting hot, making it safer to handle.

About 3 years. After the design was decided to a certain extent, I searched for a craftsman who could make this cup by myself, and after much trial and error, I commercialized it.
I had the desire to include metallic tableware in the sunsetclimax product line. The customer requested it more than I did, so I decided to design it.

The "Sierra Cup," a metal cup, is an incredibly popular item among outdoor enthusiasts, including campers. This iconic cup originated as the official cup of the Sierra Club, a U.S.-based environmental organization founded in 1892. Renowned for its lightweight design, stackable storage capability, and durability—able to withstand campfires and burners—it has gained widespread acclaim from campers worldwide.With this legacy in mind, designing a similar cup for sunsetclimax presents a significant challenge. However, we have envisioned a new metal cup that surpasses existing designs in both aesthetics and functionality.
Metal Cup can be placed directly over a fire. However, the body becomes extremely hot during use, so making the handle detachable allows you to safely handle the hot cup. Additionally, a removable handle offers the advantage of making the cup much more compact for storage.
The advantage of finishing with bead blasting, as you mentioned, lies in its ability to beautifully enhance the contours and shadows of the shape. Additionally, compared to items without bead blasting, this surface treatment was chosen with the intent of making scratches and marks from use less noticeable over time. To achieve the desired surface finish, the craftsmen strictly adhered to the specified bead blasting duration during the production process.

The Metal Cup features a unique design, with a flat rim instead of the rolled edge commonly found in standard Sierra cups. This design not only enhances the cup's aesthetic appeal but also ensures ease of cleaning by preventing dirt and grime from accumulating. Achieving this shape required numerous prototypes and iterations, but it was finally realized through persistent effort. I am deeply grateful to the craftsmen who made it possible.
This handle allows you to grip the cup body with minimal effort. To ensure this action can be performed as smoothly and effortlessly as possible, we tested the material, shape, weight balance, and hinge play repeatedly through numerous mockups. The reason the cup body is made of stainless steel and the handle is made of titanium lies in these considerations.
