About Limited space Photos
Limited Space is an good photography design. The work shows some emotions and behaviors of long-term homebound people in limited space during Covid-19, thus evoking empathy and evoking some reflections on the past and cherishing a healthy life in the future. Those who have seen this set of photos may feel the urge to tear off the gray film, which is exactly what he wants.
YU KUN's Limited space Photos operates within a distinguished lineage of photographic inquiry into the nature of vision itself, employing the interposition of a translucent barrier—perhaps frosted glass, textured acrylic, or similar diffusing material—to transform straightforward observation into phenomenological meditation. The work engages with historical precedents in Pictorialist photography while contributing meaningfully to contemporary conversations about mediated perception, the construction of intimacy, and the poetics of partial revelation. The technical achievement lies in the precise calibration of the diffusing effect: sufficient to transform visual data into atmospheric suggestion while preserving enough legible information to maintain the figure's presence as psychologically resonant rather than merely abstract. The chromatic restraint demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how color functions within limited palettes—the warm ochre of the garment and the terracotta architectural elements in the lower register provide essential visual anchoring and prevent the composition from dissolving entirely into gray abstraction. The figure's posture, with head bowed and arms drawn inward, evokes universal experiences of reflection, vulnerability, and protected interiority, while the barrier between viewer and subject creates productive tension between desire to see fully and acceptance of partial knowledge. The title's reference to "limited space" may suggest multiple interpretations: the compressed spatial depth created by the flattening glass surface, the psychological space of interior contemplation depicted, or perhaps the bounded domestic environment suggested by the geometric furniture forms. The square format reinforces qualities of containment and meditation, while the soft atmospheric handling creates temporal ambiguity—the moment captured appears suspended, neither fleeting nor permanent, but existing in a durational present. How might the interposition of barriers between ourselves and others paradoxically create conditions for deeper imaginative engagement than direct encounter permits?

- After came the epidemic of COVID19 at the beginning of 2020, he had been at home for a long dreary time. What he could do every day was repeated, monotonous behavior in a limited enclosed space, his room. His unprecedented desire of rushing out of this space so much inspired him, thus came this group of shots Limited of Space. This sense of Depression gave him an impulse of getting rid of which confined him. The gray haze wants to show a sense of stress and inactivity. People who look at this group of photos might have an impulse to tear off the gray thin film. This is exactly what he wants to express.
