About Bioo Biotechnological Lamp
Bioo, the biological switch. A lamp that is activated by touching a plant resting on the backlit pot created from sustainable materials such as ceramic and cork. This is Bioo lux, the jewel that gave the opportunity to create visual art and high-impact creativity to match the innovation and technology of this new launch. From the beginning, the objective was clear, to generate a spectacular, elegant and aesthetic video.
Carlos Cabrera's Bioo Biotechnological Lamp emerges from the fertile intersection of sustainable design thinking and biophilic aesthetics, presenting a luminaire that transcends mere functional illumination to embody a meditation on the relationship between human habitation and living systems. The work participates in a distinguished lineage of designs that integrate botanical elements into everyday objects, yet distinguishes itself through its sophisticated material vocabulary wherein the warm translucency of the lamp body suggests both the organic quality of amber or honey and the technological achievement of contemporary polymer engineering. The compositional presentation, captured at a moment of human engagement as a hand reaches toward the succulent crown, eloquently communicates the design's invitation to interaction, suggesting that the lamp functions not merely as a passive light source but as a living presence requiring and rewarding human attention. The chromatic achievement operates through a carefully calibrated warm palette that evokes associations with natural light at golden hour, firelight, and the warmth of living spaces, while the textured cork base introduces material honesty and acoustic-visual warmth that grounds the more ethereal glowing vessel above. Technical accomplishment reveals itself in the seamless integration of the planting aperture into the lamp's upper surface, where the succulent appears to emerge organically from a golden pool of light, and in the sophisticated gradation of luminosity through the vessel walls that suggests depth and dimensionality within the apparently simple form. The selection of the Echeveria succulent proves both aesthetically and symbolically resonant, its rosette form echoing the lamp's rounded geometry while its reputation for resilience and minimal care requirements aligns with contemporary values of sustainable, low-maintenance living. - The objective was clear, to generate a spectacular, elegant and aesthetic video. The product, a lamp of an excellent design with a switch out of the norm but within nature. A biological switch. This high-end product, exclusively produced in Barcelona, turns on at the touch of your favorite plant.

- Production Technology
- To create the main art and still on which to base the aesthetics of the whole project we started with a search for references and inspiration on websites such as Behance, Vimeo or Pinterest which we accumulated on moodboards within the Milanote website. To take it to 3D we always use Cinema 4D software and the Redshift rendering engine. The hand tracking part was done with a motion capture camera and then corrected in Cinema 4D itself. The particle simulations were done with the xparticles plugin.
- Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge was the implementation of the realistic hand, we looked for a 3d scan of a real hand and did the rigging. We worked on the textures trying to make it look as close as possible to reality. On the other hand it was also difficult to make all the interior spaces maintain the same style, making it look like each shot was part of a whole.
- Project Duration
- The project started in September 2021 and was completed in January 2022 in Madrid, Kutuko Studio.
- Operation Flow
- The video project is a standard Full-HD 1920X1080px format with optimised compression for social media and digital media such as web or e-commerce. In addition, and to make the content more consumable and adaptable, we worked specifically on 16:9, 1:1 and 9:16 proportions, to nurture all existing digital channels.
- Research
- The exclusivity of the product allowed us to develop high quality art, minimalism and cleanliness of each shot. The workflow and human talent was divided between modellers, motion graphers, creative directors, art directors and managers who, through an internal platform for the correct monitoring of the project, fulfilled the production phases of creativity, art, storytelling, bso, realisation, modelling, texturing, lighting, postproduction and sfx.
- Inspiration
- We want to generate spectacularity, intrigue, expectation. Create a climate of nature and emotion, convey the feeling of precision, reinforcing light and nature as design elements.
