About Nexus Spatial Brand Experience
At a center position inside the highest building in Austria, Vienna's DC Tower, Responsive Spaces created a brand space to experience the values of the tower: The Nexus presents a place to rest, connect and reconnect. This media installation uses digital information, sound, and light to take visitors on a visually charged journey and emotionally connect them to the soul of the building. An additional touch interface allows guests to explore everything on their own. While the digital content is shown, color coded and time synchronized light patterns flood the room.
Responsive Spaces's Spatial Brand Experience emerges from contemporary practices in experiential design and environmental storytelling, where spatial architecture transcends functional infrastructure to become an active communicative medium, positioning itself within the tradition of immersive brand environments that trace lineage through pioneering retail concept spaces, museum exhibition design innovations, and the material-digital integration movements of recent decades, the work demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how controlled environments shape visitor behavior and emotional response through the orchestration of light, material, proportion, and information layering, technically the installation achieves notable success in its lighting design where concealed uplighting systems create soft luminous gradients across textured vertical panels transforming utilitarian partition elements into glowing surfaces that evoke both Japanese shoji screen traditions and contemporary LED-backlit architectural systems, the material palette exhibits refined restraint with the deep charcoal infrastructure providing neutral backdrop that amplifies the warmth of honey-toned illuminated surfaces and the rich organic presence of what appears to be natural wood veneer accent walls, the terrazzo flooring grounds the experience in tactile materiality while its warm terracotta and taupe aggregate tones bridge the temperature range between cool architectural elements and warm illuminated passages, compositionally the work employs strong orthogonal geometry with rhythmic vertical panels establishing measured cadence along the right wall while the corridor's single-point perspective creates spatial recession that draws visitors forward through the environment toward the dual-screen projection system at the terminus, this projection element appears to present architectural case studies or portfolio imagery including parametric building facades and product photography suggesting the space functions as portfolio presentation environment or design studio showcase, the integration of the foreground interactive pedestal demonstrates attention to multiple scales of engagement where visitors can shift between intimate touchscreen interaction and broader environmental contemplation of larger projected imagery, the presence of the human figure captured mid-contemplation with upward gaze establishes the experiential success of the spatial design in commanding attention and directing focus through strategic placement of illuminated information nodes, the textural treatment of the vertical panels which appears to incorporate diagonal striations or woven surface quality adds subtle visual interest that rewards close inspection while maintaining overall compositional unity when viewed from distance, the color temperature of the lighting system suggests careful calibration in the 2800-3200 Kelvin range creating welcoming warmth that counterbalances the severity of the geometric framework, thematically the environment explores the intersection of physical and digital experience realms proposing architecture as interface where spatial movement corresponds to informational navigation and where material presence enhances rather than competes with screen-based content, the work invites consideration of how contemporary design practice increasingly operates across dimensional thresholds creating hybrid experiences that leverage the strengths of both physical spatial qualities such as scale, material, and atmospheric presence and digital capabilities such as dynamic content, infinite variation, and responsive interaction, visitors encountering this environment might reflect on how brand identity extends beyond visual systems into experiential territories and how spatial design serves as three-dimensional communication medium that speaks through proportion, material, light, and the choreography of human movement through designed environments, what sensory memories and emotional impressions might such carefully calibrated spatial experiences create and how do they shape our understanding of the organizations or ideas they represent.

- Unique Properties
- The Nexus is a central location inside the highest building in Austria, the DC Tower in Vienna, that is designed to bring its brand to life. This media installation takes visitors on a visually charged journey through the towers values and beliefs. Light emotionalizes those values with unique intensity while an interactive tablet allows individual exploration.
At the heart of the DC Tower, the Nexus is intended to inspire every time. The selected themes flood the room in colour-coded patterns to support the digital information on the display. - Dimensions & Packaging
- The room as the size of approximately 3 meters in width and 12 meters in length

- Production Technology
- A 75'' display, 48x RGB LED luminaires, foil wrapping and 8x light boxes specially developed for the room to visually redesign the (previously visible and unattractive) rear of the hotel lifts.
An iPad allows the interaction by visitors. - Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge of this project was the fact, that the space and its situation were given and not allowing regular ways of creating a brand space.
Therefore we created this design, utilizing the backside walls of the existing elevators by adding designed lightboxes, that feature in total 48 meters of controllable Led lights inside of them. This way, we were able to flood the room emotionally. It enabled us to create an immersive space, although we just used one digital display to communicate all relevant information. - Project Duration
- The project started in Oktober 2023 and finished in April 2024 in the DC Tower in Vienna, Austria.
- Operation Flow
- The room communicated with visitors on its own by using the light installation to delivery different brand values. Nevertheless, an iPad on the entry point of the room allows visitors to actively choose between the core topics and trigger them on demand. This feature is particularly important for guides, that start their many tours through the whole tower in this room, from now on.
- Research
- No particular research was needed for this projects. Its main purpose is brand staging and the goal to create an additional highlight experience for tenants and visitors alike.
- Inspiration
- The DC Tower is unique building in Austria featuring an iconic facade that pays homage to the Danube that flows right next to it. The tower management has a strong believe in its values and wanted to communicate these to all visitors and tenants.
An empty space on ground level should become the new emotional center of the tower and allow all visitors to experience the unique mindset of the tower and its values. - Image Credits
