About Metro Casa Common Area
Metro Casa is the common area interior design of a residential building. The project applies the Lohas philosophy, which focuses on health, sustainability and community life. A geometric folding plate feature shapes the lobby counter and the surrounding walls, echoing the beveled frames of the building facade. Sustainably sourced wood, decorative grilles and geometric patterns are used throughout. Seating areas, communal zones and greenery encourage social interaction. The scheme covers about 920 square meters and guides movement through the shared spaces.
Metro Casa Common Area by Shao Bros. Development Inc. engages contemporary residential architecture's exploration of material authenticity and spatial refinement within the luxury condominium common area typology, a building program category that has evolved significantly over recent decades from purely functional circulation space to curated experiential environment serving both practical and psychological functions for residents and visitors. The design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how material selection, surface articulation, and spatial proportion collaborate to establish atmospheric quality and communicate value through sensory experience rather than ornamental excess. The composition's architectural vocabulary draws upon multiple design lineages including the Japanese tradition of natural material celebration and refined joinery detail, Scandinavian modernism's warm minimalism and emphasis on wood as primary expressive material, and contemporary luxury hospitality design's attention to transitional spaces as opportunities for memorable sensory engagement. The technical execution evidences accomplished craftsmanship across multiple trades including millwork fabrication and installation, stone fabrication and relief carving or molding, flooring installation with precision alignment, and integrated lighting design. The wooden fluted wall system demonstrates particular technical merit in its consistent rhythm, clean reveals, flush door integration, and seamless vertical continuation across significant height, suggesting either site-fabricated custom millwork or precisely specified and installed prefabricated panel systems, the vertical fluting serving multiple functions simultaneously as visual texture, acoustic absorption or diffusion, and haptic richness. The faceted stone feature wall represents substantial fabrication complexity in its three-dimensional geometric relief, each angular plane requiring precise cutting, edge finishing, and installation alignment to achieve the continuous folded surface effect, the result reading as both sculptural art installation and functional architectural surface. The compositional decision to pair these two strongly articulated material treatments, wood and stone, warm and cool, linear rhythm and angular faceting, creates dynamic visual interest and spatial definition while maintaining overall cohesion through careful tonal calibration and shared commitment to material authenticity over applied finish or artifice. The spatial planning demonstrates understanding of circulation flow, sight lines, and experiential sequence, positioning the sculptural stone wall as immediate visual anchor upon entry while the wooden wall's rhythm and integrated doorways organize functional program and guide movement deeper into the space. The lighting strategy enhances material qualities through layered illumination combining cool natural daylight that emphasizes texture and relief through raking angles with warmer architectural accent lighting that enriches wood tones and creates intimate scale within the larger volume. The overall design achievement lies in elevating utilitarian program, the residential building common area, into memorable spatial experience that communicates quality, permanence, and attention to resident well-being through material selection, craft execution, and atmospheric orchestration. How does the careful choreography of material, light, and proportion in transitional residential spaces shape daily experience and contribute to sense of home beyond the private dwelling unit itself?
