About Bountiful Harvest Residential Apartment
Bountiful Harvest is a residential apartment interior of 224 square meters, completed in Taiwan in 2024. The original space had irregular angles and large beams and columns. An inclined wall at the entry guides the eye toward the living room, and the study is combined with the television wall to conceal the structure. Materials include a panDOMO base, special paints and imported tiles, while plasma glass in the study allows adjustable transparency. An intelligent system controls lighting, curtains and air conditioning to reduce energy use.
Shi Zhe Luo's Bountiful Harvest Residential Apartment exemplifies contemporary residential interior design at its most refined, demonstrating how restrained material palettes, sophisticated lighting strategies, and carefully calibrated spatial proportions coalesce into environments that honor both functional necessity and aesthetic contemplation. Positioned within the trajectory of early twenty-first-century luxury residential design, this interior engages minimalist principles without succumbing to austerity, instead achieving warmth through judicious material selection and chromatic nuance that speaks to evolving understanding of domestic space as sanctuary for repose and regeneration. The compositional achievement centers on the masterful ceiling treatment, where parallel recessed linear lighting channels establish rhythmic geometric order across the horizontal plane, transforming what might register as mere functional illumination into architectural gesture of considerable visual impact, these luminous vectors orchestrating spatial perception and guiding inhabitant movement through the open-plan environment with subtle directional suggestion. This lighting intervention recalls the spatial investigations of contemporary designers who recognize illumination as material in its own right, capable of sculpting volume and modulating atmospheric qualities as effectively as solid architectural elements. The chromatic sophistication evidenced in the warm earth tone palette, grounded by extensive neutral surfaces and punctuated by selective darker accents and jewel-tone highlights, demonstrates mastery of color psychology in residential contexts, creating visual warmth and psychological comfort while maintaining the clarity and spaciousness associated with minimalist traditions. Material selection reveals similar discernment, with smooth pale flooring providing visual foundation and spatial continuity, warm-toned wood cabinetry introducing organic texture and tactile invitation, upholstered elements in terracotta and ochre hues offering chromatic warmth and human-scale intimacy, and the distinctive metallic mosaic feature wall contributing textural complexity and material luxury that prevents monotony while respecting overall tonal unity. The open-plan spatial organization, characteristic of contemporary residential design, here achieves successful zone delineation through furniture placement rather than partition walls, allowing visual and spatial flow while maintaining functional clarity between living, dining, and service areas, an approach that maximizes perceived spaciousness while accommodating diverse domestic activities within coherent architectural envelope. The pendant lighting elements suspended above the bar counter introduce sculptural dimension and vertical punctuation within the predominantly horizontal spatial composition, their golden metallic finishes catching and reflecting ambient light to create focal sparkle that draws the eye and establishes hierarchical accent within the broader neutral field. What emerges through sustained observation appears to be design philosophy prioritizing experiential qualities over demonstrative gesture, where spatial generosity, material integrity, luminous ambience, and chromatic harmony combine to support inhabitation characterized by ease, comfort, and aesthetic nourishment, the environment seemingly designed not to impress through overt display but rather to envelop and sustain through measured refinement and attention to proportional relationships, material character, and the subtle modulation of light across surfaces and through space, inviting consideration of how residential environments might serve not merely as backdrops for living but as active participants in daily experience, shaping mood, facilitating activity, and offering visual and tactile pleasure through thoughtful integration of architectural, material, and luminous elements into coherent spatial composition.

- Production Technology
- The design focuses on spatial optimization and material layering. The designer used a strategic inclined wall at the entryway to naturally guide the eye into the living room, solving the spatial incoherence. The living room and study were combined to conceal large beams and columns, creating a cohesive visual statement. Material selection emphasizes a blend of textures, with a panDOMO base, special paints, and imported tiles creating a tactile, layered feel. Furniture and lighting from Italy add refined detail, and the plasma glass in the study allows for flexible transparency and privacy.
- Design Challenge
- The primary challenges were the inherent architectural flaws of the original space, including irregular corners and large beams and columns. The creative hurdle was to transform these imperfections, which typically create visual clutter and incoherent spatial lines, into intentional design features. A technical challenge was integrating an AI system that could not only control various devices but also provide intelligent, energy saving automation. This required meticulous planning to ensure technology, function, and aesthetics were aligned without compromising the calm, wabi sabi inspired atmosphere.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in 2024 in Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The AI intelligent system provides automated control over lighting, curtains, and air conditioning, which can be configured for energy savings based on outdoor light levels. The public area is designed with the bar as a central point, creating a fluid, full perspective space for family interaction. The corridor in the private area is transformed into a small living room by strategically combining the angles of the doors, making a once narrow space a relaxing, multifunctional lounge.
- Research
- The project's engineering is a testament to its innovative problem solving. The design integrated a study and TV wall to manage large structural beams, creating a cohesive and artistic focal point. An AI system was implemented to manage environmental controls, including a unique feature that automatically adjusts indoor lighting based on natural light levels to reduce energy consumption. The master bathroom's faucet, which integrates soap storage, and the anodized copper door with a gradient "dusk mapping" effect, are examples of how aesthetic details are backed by functional engineering and craftsmanship.
- Inspiration
- This project was inspired by the challenge of transforming a raw space with irregular angles, large beams, and columns into a cohesive, elegant home. The core idea was to turn these architectural imperfections into unique design highlights. The design aesthetic was born from a fusion of wabi sabi philosophy and modern luxury, aiming to create a calm, layered atmosphere.
