About Blush Oasis Wellness Indoor Pool
Blush Oasis is an indoor wellness pool designed as a calm spa retreat. The pool measures 10 by 4 meters with a depth of 1.5 meters and sits within a wellness space of 8.5 by 16 meters. Blush pink tadelakt plaster, handmade Zellige tiles, natural stone flooring, custom metalwork, and curved arches define the interior. Azure water and greenery complete the setting. A skimmer system and underfloor heating are integrated for comfort and durability. Daybeds and cabanas create private zones beside the water.
Beliz Görgül Kolsuz's Blush Oasis Wellness Indoor Pool demonstrates sophisticated engagement with centuries-old bathing traditions from Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cultures, translating the spatial and material vocabularies of historical hammams, riads, and courtyard architectures into a contemporary wellness environment that honors craft heritage while serving present-day therapeutic functions, the designer achieves remarkable chromatic sophistication through the deployment of a warm earth-toned palette that recalls natural mineral pigments, terracotta clay, desert landscapes, and oxidized metals, establishing immediate psychological associations with warmth, earthiness, shelter, and embodied comfort, these chromatic choices work in concert with cool water tones to create dynamic thermal contrast that enhances the sensory experience of the space, compositionally, the work demonstrates assured handling of symmetry and asymmetry, establishing a dominant vertical axis through the monumental keyhole doorway that anchors visual attention while asymmetrical distribution of furnishing, plantings, and secondary architectural features creates dynamic equilibrium rather than static balance, the intricate geometric ornament visible in the carved screens references Islamic artistic traditions of infinite pattern, mathematical harmony, and the transformation of base materials through patient craft into objects of contemplation, these patterns traditionally function as visual metaphors for divine order and the underlying geometric structure of creation, here translated into secular wellness contexts where they retain their capacity to focus attention and create meditative visual fields, the integration of substantial tropical plantings introduces biophilic design principles, acknowledging research demonstrating psychological and physiological benefits of nature connection, the verdant presence softens hard architectural surfaces, improves air quality, provides visual complexity at human scale, and evokes associations with oasis, paradise garden, and sanctuary archetypes deeply embedded in cultural memory across traditions, the textile drapery system creates flexible spatial definition, allowing for privacy modulation, light filtration, and the introduction of movement through air currents, while the minimal furnishing vocabulary maintains uncluttered serenity that supports contemplative states, lighting design demonstrates particular accomplishment, layering ambient diffused illumination that suggests daylight with strategic accent lighting from traditional lantern forms that provide human-scaled warm pools of light, creating graduated luminosity that guides movement and establishes intimate zones within the larger volume, the water basins themselves function as both utilitarian therapeutic elements and symbolic presences, water carrying profound cross-cultural associations with purification, renewal, life force, reflection, and boundary crossing between states of being, the careful attention to material authenticity, evident in the use of actual terracotta plaster, ceramic tile, carved wood, woven textiles, and living plants rather than synthetic substitutes, demonstrates respect for traditional craft practices and material intelligence while creating multisensory richness through varied surface textures, thermal properties, acoustic qualities, and aging characteristics that synthetic materials cannot replicate, this integration of cultural memory, material authenticity, spatial intelligence, and contemporary wellness programming invites consideration of how designed environments can serve not merely functional requirements but deeper human needs for beauty, cultural connection, sensory nourishment, and spaces that honor the body as worthy of architectural attention and care, might this synthesis of historical precedent and contemporary purpose offer pathways toward hospitality and wellness design that transcends generic commercial aesthetics to create spaces of genuine restoration and cultural resonance.

- Production Technology
- The pool area integrates traditional Moroccan craftsmanship through the application of tadelakt plaster, valued for its waterproof, seamless surface and soft reflectivity. Complementing this, handmade Zellige tiles introduce intricate geometric compositions, enhancing both durability and visual rhythm. The design methodology relied on pattern studies and chromatic research, reinterpreting Moroccan motifs into a contemporary context to balance artisanal heritage with modern wellness design principles.
- Design Challenge
- The creative challenge was to reinterpret Moroccan elements in a modern pool setting while ensuring technical precision. Applying tadelakt plaster proved demanding, as its seamless, water-resistant surface requires high craftsmanship and cannot be repaired once errors occur. Additional obstacles included sourcing authentic Zellige tiles, integrating a skimmer system, and aligning underfloor heating with wellness functions, all under strict local construction standards.
- Project Duration
- The project was developed and realized in Ankara between 2023 and 2025, transforming cultural inspiration into a contemporary spa-like pool environment.
- Operation Flow
- The pool area is designed as a wellness retreat where users transition seamlessly from water to lounge. Daybeds and cabanas create zones of privacy, while arches frame perspectives. Natural light, reflections, and greenery guide spatial flow, ensuring a calming, immersive experience.
- Research
- The design is grounded in research on Moroccan courtyards, arches, and artisanal surfaces. Studies on tadelakt’s waterproof qualities, Zellige’s geometric modularity, and the psychological impact of blush pink and azure hues informed spatial and material choices, balancing tradition with wellness design.
- Inspiration
- This design draws inspiration from the atmospheric courtyards and archways of Moroccan heritage, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. The concept emerged from a desire to create a sanctuary where water, light, and color converge to evoke serenity. Studies on spatial flow and material durability informed the structure, while the use of soft pink and blue hues reflects research into calming visual environments for wellness-focused spaces.
