About Aloura Pendant Light

Aloura is a pendant light designed for hotel interiors, loft spaces and other large rooms. The sculptural form gives the lamp a strong presence, and the appearance changes as the light is viewed from different angles. The structure combines a 3D-printed core with anodised aluminium tubes, which keeps the composition light in weight. A replaceable E27 bulb sits inside a frosted glass inner shade. Three diameters and three colours are offered, and the parametric design allows other sizes. The lamp is shipped partly assembled in one compact box.

Positioned within the vibrant trajectory of contemporary sculptural lighting design, the Aloura Pendant Light by Daniel Mato represents a compelling synthesis of technical precision and poetic formal invention that speaks to ongoing conversations between functional object and autonomous artwork. The fixture demonstrates remarkable compositional intelligence in its orchestration of linear metallic elements that radiate from a central illuminated core, creating a form that appears simultaneously explosive and contained, suggesting the frozen instant of a starburst or the delicate architecture of botanical seed structures. The technical achievement evident in the precise calibration of each rod's angle and length reveals meticulous attention to both aesthetic effect and manufacturing methodology, with the gradient of light across the metallic surfaces creating subtle chromatic shifts from warm golden tones near the source to cooler silvered grays at the periphery. This interplay between illumination and material response elevates the piece beyond mere lighting instrument toward contemplative object, inviting meditation on the nature of radiance itself and its capacity to transform simple materials into vehicles of visual poetry. The asymmetrical butterfly-like overall silhouette introduces organic resonance into the geometric precision, perhaps referencing natural phenomena such as marine radiolaria, dandelion seed heads, or the corona of eclipsed celestial bodies. Viewers may find themselves drawn to consider the relationship between center and periphery, containment and expansion, as well as the fundamental human impulse to create order and beauty from the interplay of light and shadow.

Unique Properties
Aloura’s complex form becomes the focal point of any space. Its bold, sculptural presence fills the interior with dynamic light and a visual experience that shifts continuously from every viewpoint.
Dimensions & Packaging
Available in three standard colors with matching or contrasting combinations, and in three diameters: 107 cm, 136 cm, and 181 cm. The light source is a replaceable E27 bulb (15 W, 1500 lm), housed inside a frosted glass inner shade. Thanks to its highly parameterized design and 3D-printed core, the lamp can also be customized in size. Delivered partially assembled in a single cardboard box.

Production Technology
The lamp’s structure features a signature 3D-printed core paired with anodized aluminum tubes, creating a surprisingly lightweight yet refined composition. Despite its complex form, it is easy to assemble and can be shipped in a compact box.
Design Challenge
The main challenge was to ensure easy assembly despite the large scale, while also enabling a fully replaceable light source. Optimizing the 3D-printed core in particular was a complex task. It was essential that the lamp could be shipped disassembled to reduce its environmental footprint, yet still be assembled quickly and effortlessly.
Project Duration
This Budapest based project started in June 2025 and finished in October 2026. Its first exhibition was Blickfang Vienna 2025.
Operation Flow
The lamp is easy to operate, just like any standard ceiling light.
Research
The goal of the project was to create a particularly striking and unusual, yet elegant modern chandelier, optimized for hotel interiors and loft spaces. A highly parametric CAD design was a key part of the development process and, together with the 3D-printed core, allows the lamp to be easily adapted in size to specific customer requirements.
Inspiration
Aloura is mainly inspired by modern sculpture, combining bold, sculptural presence with refined elegance. Its flowing lines and soft, nature-inspired forms create a sense of effortless sophistication.
