About Yhdq Design Headquarters
Yhdq Design is a headquarters interior of 1500 square meters located in Chongqing, China. The space combines a working office with a gallery. A seamless mirror-polished stainless steel ceiling reflects the surrounding cityscape and brings the urban view inside. Curved partitions rotate on concealed tracks, so areas can be reconfigured quickly and quietly. A programmable lighting system adjusts the atmosphere for different uses. Warm travertine and American walnut are paired with micro-cement and wire mesh glass. Kinetic artworks are treated as part of the architecture.
This interior environment by YHDQ Design presents a compelling meditation on the relationship between sculptural art and inhabited space, situating itself within contemporary tendencies that embrace raw materiality alongside refined aesthetic sensibility. The space demonstrates masterful orchestration of material contrasts, juxtaposing the brutalist honesty of exposed concrete structural elements with the sumptuous comfort of deeply channeled upholstery in sophisticated neutral tones. The commanding sculptural centerpiece—a seated feminine figure whose form dissolves into botanical elaboration—functions as both artistic statement and spatial anchor, inviting contemplation of transformation, growth, and the permeable boundaries between human presence and natural forces. The technical achievement of the interior lies in its subtle calibration of atmospheric conditions, harnessing the diffused golden light filtering through extensive glazing to create an environment of profound warmth and psychological comfort. The designer demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how materials communicate through their surfaces, allowing rough concrete to speak of structural authenticity while polished stone and reflective glass contribute luminous refinement. The color strategy employs remarkable restraint, building its emotional register through tonal relationships within a narrow chromatic band rather than through chromatic contrast, achieving a contemplative mood that encourages dwelling and reflection. The integration of the sculptural work within the living environment suggests an approach to interior design that privileges meaningful artistic engagement over decorative accumulation, proposing that domestic space might serve as a setting for transformative aesthetic experience. Viewers are invited to consider how the interplay of organic sculptural forms and rectilinear architectural geometry might reflect broader questions about the human desire to harmonize built environments with natural rhythms and biological processes.
Press Kit
- Unique Properties
- This space defies categorization as a mere office. It is a permanent yet mutable gallery where a seamless mirrored ceiling performs its visual act: marrying the interior with Chongqing's urban panorama. Here, functional architecture, like rotating walls, and central kinetic artworks are inseparable, collectively forming a living ecosystem dedicated to the ritual of creation.

- Production Technology
- Spatial Illusion: A custom-engineered, seamless mirror-polished stainless steel ceiling system creates a perfect, distortion-free reflection of the cityscape.
Light Choreography: A programmable DMX lighting system sculpts space and orchestrates mood shifts for different scenarios.
Adaptive Architecture: Heavy-duty concealed tracks and 360-degree rotating curved partitions enable silent, rapid spatial reconfiguration.
Hybrid Art Fabrication: Key artworks were realized in-house, fusing traditional handcraftsmanship (metal forging, bamboo weaving) with precision digital fabrication (CNC machining).
Material Palette: A tactile dialogue between warm, natural materials (Travertine, American walnut) and industrial, textured surfaces (micro-cement, wire mesh glass). - Design Challenge
- Challenge 1: Merging an avant-garde "art scene" concept with daily operational needs. Solution: Strategic zoning and multifunctional, transformable elements that hide practicality within artful forms.
Challenge 2: Executing highly complex, cross-disciplinary fabrication (architecture, fine art, digital tech). Solution: Leveraging the brand's unique in-house vertical integration of design, art studio, and fabrication workshop for flawless execution.
Challenge 3: Translating the specific spirit of Chongqing into a universally compelling design. Solution: Abstracting the city's essence into atmospheric qualities - light, reflection, texture - rather than using literal cultural symbols. - Project Duration
- The project is located in Chongqing, China, and was completed and officially put into operation in October 2024.
- Operation Flow
- Interaction occurs on two levels. Physically: Users actively engage by operating the symbolic rotating door, rearranging modular furniture, and moving through corridors where programmed light alters perception. Perceptually: The mirrored ceiling immerses visitors in an ever-changing art piece that includes them and the city. The responsive environment and thought-provoking artworks foster continuous intellectual and emotional engagement.
- Research
- This project serves as applied research into using art as the central operational framework for a corporate environment. It proves that a deeply artistic, narrative-based space can powerfully strengthen brand identity, stimulate higher creativity, and foster a stronger sense of community. It establishes a new paradigm where the workplace itself is a curated, inspirational asset.
- Inspiration
- The design is triply inspired. First, by Brand Ontology: physically manifesting YHDQ Design's unique evolution from art gallery to holistic design maker in the space. Second, by Urban Context: abstracting Chongqing's cyberpunk energy, mountainous layers, and misty river light into spatial drama and material texture. Third, by the Future of Work: creating a magnetic destination that attracts talent through inspirational culture and emotional resonance, transcending transactional efficiency.
