About 4000 Light Restaurant
4000 Light is a hot pot restaurant interior designed for young customers. Light is used as the core design element of the space. Different light sources and specular reflection materials create reflection and refraction effects on carefully shaped surfaces. An image interaction technology adds changing visual effects. Three focal areas, named the art hall, the wormhole and the time channel, organize the plan. The interior covers 1000 square meters. Light and shade replace building materials as the main space-forming elements, so visitors interact with the surrounding environment.
Niandi xu's 4000 Light Restaurant presents a remarkable meditation on the intersection of traditional craft sensibilities and contemporary spatial practice, embodying what might be described as neo-artisanal architecture translated into immersive hospitality experience. The work draws upon deep wells of cultural heritage, suggesting affinities with traditional Asian lantern construction, bamboo craft traditions, and the philosophical appreciation of contained space as a vessel for contemplation and communion. The designer appears to have conceived the dining pavilion as a luminous sanctuary suspended within darkness, creating what phenomenologists of architecture might recognize as a threshold space that mediates between the quotidian world and the heightened experience of culinary ceremony. Technical accomplishment manifests in the precision of the slatted construction, where each vertical element maintains consistent spacing while following the demanding curves of the ovoid form, demonstrating sophisticated understanding of material behavior and fabrication methodology. The chromatic decision to employ warm copper tones activates associations with hearth, warmth, and hospitality across numerous cultural traditions while simultaneously reading as contemporary and refined within current design discourse. The sinuous ribbon element that flows through the composition introduces dynamic energy that prevents the symmetrical pavilion from appearing static, suggesting instead organic processes of growth, flow, and transformation that animate the space with implied movement. The interplay between transparency and enclosure invites contemplation of public and private thresholds, the dining experience positioned as simultaneously visible and protected, observable yet intimate. Viewers might consider how this environment transforms the simple act of sharing a meal into architectural ceremony, and what such spatial generosity reveals about contemporary aspirations for meaningful gathering.

- Firstly, this project has three visual focus on the space design, applying the design elements of light and shade to form the spatial characteristics of the project.They are respectively art hall,wormhole and time channel.
Secondly, the restaurant business indicators are as follows, number of meals: 255; kitchen area: 14%.
Thirdly, ambient air index: the emission standard after soot purification is less than 1.0mg/m3, and the space air volume is updated by 100000m3/h. - Design Challenge
- In this project, light and shade are used as space construction elements. How to balance and integrate light and shade technology with artistic effects is the challenge of this project.
Take the "wormhole" as an example. It is technically necessary to control the rendering effect of the projected picture on the curved wall. In terms of art, it is necessary to consider the production of image content, so as to create a strong and attractive interaction effect between the experiencer and the image. - Project Duration

- In space design, the relationship between man and art is one-way most of the time. The designer of the project breaks through the barrier of constructing space with building materials as the main body, and introduces light and shade as the space construction elements, breaking the boundary between human and space materials to let a person's behavior affect visual changes of the entire space and allow users to experience the integration and interaction of the self and the surrounding environment.

- Light and shade in the space and interaction between light and people are inspiration of the project.
The designer conducted an in-depth research on the process of special shape, curve and specular reflection, spent time studying digital image projection technology, and developed YINI IP image interaction technology.
