About Luminada Wall Lamp
A new design for lighting the modern house, office or buildings. Developed in aluminum and glass with flexible LED strip light font, Luminada provides a high lighting effects in its surroundings. Besides, the design worry about installation and maintenance, in this way, it is provided with a specific designed base plate which can be mounted in standard octagonal J box. For maintenance, after the 20.000 life hours, only is necessary take out the lens and replace the flexible LED strip. An innovative design, symmetrically asymmetric, with no visible fasteners provides a clean finish work.

- Unique Properties
- A simplest way for housing a LED light.
Standard materials: All components are of standard and ecological materials, aluminium extruded profile and glass sheets.
Manufacture: Just cut and drill rectangular aluminum profile 100 mm width, 50 mm height and 2.5 mm thickness and cut a glass sheet 3 mm thick.
Versatility: Size, finishing, power lighting can be customized in accordance with the requirements of the rooms where it will be install.

- Production Technology
- After the will to create a special new object for lighting, the process begun with drafts, a lot of drafts, and then go ahead with this one, which was refined for technical purpose. With this in the CNC milling machine, cut the aluminium profile and the glass sheet, so, put it all together and was fixed the flexible LED strip and its drivers. It was born Luminada.
- Design Challenge
- The challenge was not only developing a new lighting with non-visible fasteners and new technologies, the real challenge was to do this with standard materials and easy and chip manufacturing process with the mind in maintenance, longest lifetime and, obviously, an aesthetical beautiful piece.

- The particular design of the mounting plate allows it to be installed onto a standard octagonal J box. After fasten the mounting plate in the J box, Luminada can be installed in the mounting plate fixing system.
- Research
- The research was conducted to employ recyclables materials for frame and lens, in order to obtain a homogenous composition, with a minimum impact also in the manufacturing process. In this way, aluminum, as the most abundant metal in the earth and glass, are the best materials to be employed in a lighting object.
In this way, the impact of the materials and of the production of the lamp is at the minimum level.
It uses flexible LED strip instead of LED’s bulb, thinking in future disposal at the end life light.
So, the result was an ecological lamp with minimum impact to the environment. - Inspiration
- In the great masterpiece written by Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature, he writes:
We ascribe beauty to that which has no superfluous parts; which exactly answers its end; which stands related to all things.
Just like in nature, the beauty of an object is in its simplicity, in how it achieves its essential function.
So, Luminada looks for a new geometrical form, simple, clean lines, easy to build and with clarity of purpose. A modern lighting system which could attach architectural depth to the modern house.
Luminada illuminate without any visible fastener or weld, giving a clean finished aesthetic.

We were thinking of creating a luminaire that could serve internal spaces with heights greater than 3 meters, such as the entrance lobby of large buildings, large staircases, etcetera.
The luminaire should, besides being able to provide the appropriate level of lighting for the environment, fill the vertical space with elegance, harmony and aesthetics, regardless of whether it is on or off.
The light source should be LED and therefore should allow the installation of drivers.
We wanted an innovative product in terms of style and content, light and elegant.

We are thinking of producing a limited series of the original model and creating other versions with different sizes and colors.
Luminada can also be installed in other types of spaces since it can be mounted in a vertical or horizontal way, this is the concept we want to explore in the new versions.

After her execution, when we first turn on, we were surprised by her luminosity.
In Portuguese she was an "iluminada" (illuminated one in English), both in her function and in her form, and as we really love what we do, we affectionately call Luminada.

Because it is a project that is practically 2D, all its elements are almost on the same plane, we only use 2D graphic softer, to define the dimensions and analyze the proportions.

Our work is usually directed to meet a particular need, a specific product for a particular function. It is not about reaching the market, so we do not work with analytic data.

Usually the biggest challenges are the deadline and the cost. It is very difficult to keep the creation and development within the planned budget and the agreed deadline.
However, in this case, because it is a project of our own, we have only had the challenge of not exceeding the planned budget.

Even though we are rather rigid in judging our own work, this is only one part of the issue, the other part is the judgement by the market, by our colleagues and by the expert critics.
The best place to find all this gathered, with impartiality, is in an international competition.
