About Wuxing Youxing Design Office
Wuxing Youxing is an office interior created for a design studio in Hangzhou. The project covers 680 square meters inside a former textile machinery factory in a creative industry park. Hollow openings link three floors into one large space, and a central staircase joins the separate areas. A suspended meeting room and a sunken book bar sit on staggered levels. Large areas of clear glass widen the view and bring light into the narrow plan. Sliding partition doors open or hide the work area as needed. A movable skylight on the top floor draws daylight indoors.
Zhixue Wei's Wuxing Youxing Design Office presents a compelling meditation on threshold and transparency within contemporary professional environments, positioning itself within the broader discourse of biophilic workplace design that emerged prominently in early twenty-first century architectural practice, the project synthesizes material austerity with sensory richness through its consistent application of aggregate terrazzo surfaces that establish both visual and haptic continuity while the strategic incorporation of living plant systems introduces organic variability and temporal dimension into an otherwise geometrically precise spatial envelope, the designer demonstrates notable compositional sophistication in the orchestration of the entry sequence where a deliberately compressed gray antechamber gives way through a carefully proportioned aperture to the expansive light-filled atrium beyond creating a phenomenological experience of release and discovery that recalls classical spatial progressions while remaining firmly grounded in contemporary material sensibilities, the dimensional brass logotype mounted upon the reception wall functions simultaneously as wayfinding element brand signifier and sculptural object its geometric characters derived from traditional calligraphic forms yet rendered with modernist clarity suggesting a thoughtful negotiation between cultural heritage and progressive design thinking, the staircase visible through the central opening operates as both functional circulation and visual focal point its bold black and white materiality creating graphic contrast against the verdant backdrop of the living wall while its angular geometry introduces dynamic diagonal energy into the predominantly rectilinear composition, the integration of concealed linear lighting along floor edges introduces an ethereal quality that subtly levitates the massive terrazzo surfaces suggesting weightlessness within apparent mass, viewers might contemplate how this careful calibration of material weight and visual lightness metaphorically addresses the creative process itself where grounded craft supports imaginative flight.

- The project is located in Hangzhou Jingwei International Creative Industry Park. The original textile machinery factory as an industrial heritage can retain and transform the creative park. The main body of this case is the office space of Wuxing Youxing Design Studio. The designers follow the consistent way of restraint and balance, present with transparent, pure and delicate vision, and complete unrestrained and frank, concise and neat expression of spatial emotions.

- The project covers a total of 680 square meters. From overall planning to detail control, designers use a modern perspective to turn space into a carrier of functionality and artistry, and establish the harmony and warmth of space in the comparison between hardness and softness, cold and warm.

- Design Challenge
- The open kitchen restaurant is comfortable and simple, cold but not cold. Exquisite details play a role of more than less, more than simple. The partition door adopts a sliding design, so as to open or hide the workspace according to the demand. It not only adheres to the needs of the company's overall operation, but also creates different visual feelings in different functional spaces, creating the most convenient and comfortable environment for employees to improve work efficiency.

- The project started in May 2018 in Hangzhou and finished in July 2018 in Hangzhou.
- Operation Flow
- The top floor uses the mobile skylight to guide the scenery into the room, extending the sense of hierarchy of the space longitudinally.
- Research
- This case is located in the westernmost part of the park. Outside the enclosure of the park is the abandoned railway track in the north section of Hangzhou city. I saw the train passing by occasionally.
Landscape plants can not only purify the air, add a touch of jumping vitality to the interior, but also improve the texture of the space, so that the impetuous heart tends to calm. - Inspiration
- In terms of spatial planning, they pursue the sense of scale brought by large space, reserve hollow space by using the advantage of storey height. The suspended conference room and the sinking book bar use the staggered floor space structure to distinguish the functions, and the three floors are integrated and relatively independent through the continuous up and down response of the stairs.
