Interview with Vladimir Polikarpov

Could you please tell us more about your art and design background? What made you become an artist/designer? Have you always wanted to be a designer?
My passion for art is determined by the desire for diversity in the multifacetedness of life. One day my father came up to me and asked me what I would like to become. Then ending school I could only say - "I fond of sketching cars". Being the builder, my father advised me to approach the department of architecture. So now, with deep gratitude, I am trying to expand the boundaries of my creativity.
Can you tell us more about your company / design studio?
The studio is primarily the abode of consciousness, creativity and depth of interest. How big is it? Today, the location or distance between those who can bring something beautiful, special and unique to this magnificent world does not matter much.
What is "design" for you?
That anyone, besides myself, can be called worthy or unique can be called design without a doubt. Design is inherentness of the desire to create and use correctly created before. The whole universe is built in such a way that each of us can only envy such a design or at least try to create something approximate.
What kinds of works do you like designing most?
The elegance of thought gives freedom for the creation of all that pleases, respectively, each new challenge for me, becomes so interesting, as you can imagine it ... The important here is the possibility of conception's realization, because every thought is born to materialize, although not everyone is destined to incarnate. I adore lines, faces, planes, volumes, ornate shapes and unimaginable ornaments. They evoke in the soul, in the body and consciousness the flow of wisdom and something that he himself is unable to explain.
What is your most favorite design, could you please tell more about it?
I try to choose the time for the opportunity to sit down with a pencil and notepad, ask myself a topic and draw, sketch, reflect. I am still devoted to my favorite occupation - the drawing of cars. The last work, which I called Greyhound, I was even going to put up for the Lexus Design Award. But I realized that the designers of cars they have enough and they are developing in other directions.
What was the first thing you designed for a company?
It is difficult to remember a certain thing. Although it all began with very simple and uncomplicated projects. Basically, these were developments in the field of visualization ... And even today we are developing visualizations for customers.
What is your favorite material / platform / technology?
Any natural and inartificial material is worthy of the name of the best. Although, you know, I'll tell you a couple of basic ones. First of all, metals. They give any product its severity. Brass, copper, steel, aluminum - each of them like a suit that you put on a special occasion. Still very good stones, different types of concrete, clay, glass and porcelain. They are beautiful in their own way, creating a wonderful background for something polished, sparkling, give an opportunity to compare, admire or revere depending on the size and quantity. Wood is a dumb material. The oldest and warmest. You will always find comfort and calm by touching it, running your hand over its diverse and truly creative surface. Each material can be used as accessories, improvised means for creating a picture, pictures, or words for communication with a certain skill.
Which aspects of a design do you focus more during designing?
The world around us and being in us gives us the opportunity to create, considering any laws of nature. Communication with the customer and a feeling of space give everything necessary for viewing most aspects, tasks and questions with further detailed advancement into the depth of the project. Many famous architects or designers will tell you, this is light and shadow, spatiality, composition, convenience and other basic provisions. All this is self-evident. But not everyone will disclose all the cards to you. And it seems to me that each of us could, on personal experience, reason with those necessary factors that can not be neglected in the design process ... otherwise personal growth can not be achieved.
When judging a design as good or bad, which aspects do you consider first?
Determining the level of work, I try to imbue myself with the thought or feeling of the designer's interest. Present the subject of evaluation in action. Sometimes one glance is enough for evaluation. After all, everything begins with the image, with the composition, proportions, color and you already understand - "This project is interesting." What did the creator mean? ", And here you are reading the designer's thoughts ... so everything happens if you are a famous art critic or little dried philistine, customer, customer.
How do you think the "design field" is evolving? What is the future of design?
Each thread design leads to lightness. This suggests that in this notion, both now and in the future, we can invest as contemplation of any created subject, object, and the use of appropriate approaches, technologies developing in the direction of ease and unpredictability, as well as the convenience of their use. Look at the castles, pyramids, ziggurats ... and look at modern pavilions, bridges, skyscrapers ... I think the words here would be redundant.
Where does the design inspiration for your works come from? How do you feed your creativity? What are your sources of inspirations?
I was often interested in the question of from what sources ancient architects, creators, artisans received inspiration. After all, in those days there were no magazines, books with huge glossy pages, Instagram, Pinterest ... They seemed to be imbued with the desire to create the best and unimaginable. Over time, I began to understand that only a person with the joy and love within him can create something beautiful ... Personally, my children give inspiration to me ... When you are next to them, you understand how endless their childhood fantasy ... they charge, give meaning to my projects. They are ready to support, offer, finish, add something of their own and, with the ease of flu, criticize your project. They are true sages. I can always get an opinion from my second half and this is important to me.
How would you describe your design style? What made you explore more this style and what are the main characteristics of your style? What's your approach to design?
I could describe the direction in which I feel myself a sensual minimalism. What does it mean? - you ask. I support large-scale proportionality (large proportional form shaping) with lines and images that evoke sublime feelings, love for everything that a person creates, forcing the observer to be inspired and create something like this, infecting himself with the kind of courtesy and respect for others.
What are 5 of your favorite design items at home?
Oh, there are quite a few of them ... but personally I would single out: A table that gives rigor to the interior; Sofa - emphasizes or softens the lines of living space; Floor lamp - creates an orientation of coziness; Sound system - Every house must have nice music ... it welcomes, sets the pace of the day and the corresponding mood. ; The car is an important detail, helping to significantly accelerate many processes ...
What is your "golden rule" in design?
There should be everything done as beautifully and gracefully in design as you would like to see your own life.
How long does it take to design an object from beginning to end?
There are tasks that take an insignificant amount of time and those that can be stretched out for years. For various reasons and in connection with different possibilities - the dimensions of the object, its location, material component, etc. Although everything is not always so unambiguous. I have experience of a complete reconstruction of the public building, which lasted 2 months, and there are small commercial pavilions that have been embodied for more than a year ...
What is the most frequently asked question to you, as a designer?
Yes, there really are not many such questions. Hmm.Often the client wants to know about the experience in the field of design. Customers want to see what they are investing in, of course, they are interested in this kind of issues.Do I face the development of a similar type of design or direction? OrWhat can you offer us? Often such questions are asked by the client, being interested in the level of professionalism or someone who knows little about the creativity and works of his designer.
