In Vietnam, we see the bamboo lattice technique in many products such as boats, furniture, chicken cages, lanterns... Bamboo lattice is strong, inexpensive, and easy to make. My vision is to create a resort wear fashion that is exciting and graceful, sophisticated and charming. I applied this bamboo lattice detail to some of my fashions by converting the raw, hard regular lattice to soft material. My designs combine tradition with modern form, the hardness of the lattice pattern and sand softness of fine fabrics. My focus is on form and details, bringing charm and feminineness to the wearer.

Interview with Do Thanh Xuan on Bamboo lattice Clothes

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
The bamboo lattice work in vietnam is everywhere in the life at varying scales and a wide range of uses. The bamboo is used structurally, to create a form. The textured shapes are interesting and beautiful and it impresses me about how such a simple, inexpensive product can make such unique, beautiful and durable products. This inspired to bring it into my fashion designs.
What are your future plans for this award winning design?
I plan to manufacture in different colors to sell in my shop. Also available to export or wholesale
Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?
The weaving of Bamboo that is so commonly used here in many products and household items.
What is the role of technology in this particular design?
Technology didn't play much of a role here except to illustrate the design.
How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
I wanted to try to generate some international publicity for my company and designs. A friend recommended that I should try the competition - and so I did.
