ORGANICA is Fabrizio´s philosophical portrayal of any organic system in which all parts are interconnected to give existence. The design was based on the complexity of the human body and the human pre-conception. The viewer is lead into a sublime journey. The doorway to this trip are two massive wooden forms that are perceived as lungs, then an aluminum shaft with connectors that resembles a spine. The viewer can find twisted rods that look like arteries, a shape that can be interpreted as an organ and the finale is a beautiful template glass, strong but fragile, just like the human skin.

Interview with Fabrizio Constanza on Organica Entrance table

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
I was given total liberty of creation for this project. My father is a Plastic Surgeon, so I decided to base my design in the Human Body.
What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
I wanted to eliminate the conception of the table being four legs and a top. If the legs are thought out just as on their stability function, then you can find infinite ways to give stability to the table.
How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
Design did not take so long, about three weeks, prototyping and manufacturing was another story.
Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
This particular design was commissioned. I have been working for three years for this particular client designing art mounting solutions for his collection of sculptures, so I have a good feeling of his taste on art.
How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
Organica means organic in Spanish. It seemed right for the project.
Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
Most important great communication with my manufacturing suppliers then lots of Sketching paper, pens, Corel Draw, 3D Max, Autocad, cardboard.
Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
Once I have an idea of what I want to produce, I call my suppliers and meet with them. They make my designs possible. I enjoy very much the brain storming with expert suppliers.
What is the role of technology in this particular design?
Technology is an interesting issue in Guatemala. This piece is all handmade.
What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
The metal rod twisting, even though the 3D showed well, I spent six hours looking at all the axes of view to ensure a balanced omposition.
