There are many different kinds of bracelets and bangles: designers, golden, plastic, cheap and expensive… but beautiful as they are, they all are always simply and only bracelets. Fred is something more. These cuffs in their simplicity revive the noblesse of old times, yet they are modern. They can be worn on bare hands as well on a silk blouse or a black sweater, and they will always add a touch of class to the person wearing them . These bracelets are unique because they come as a pair. They are very light which makes wearing them omfortable. By wearing them, one will shurely be noticed!

Interview with Diana Sokolic on Fred Bracelet

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?
I often g to the theatre and I like to dress for the occasion. I like to have something new and different every time I go. Once while I as thinking what to wear this time, there was a movie with Fred astaire on TV. I saw his elegant figure, his sleek suit, his cuffs...and viola! The idea was born.
What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?
The idea was to make something nice and wearable, something different from usual jewelry. I remembered cuffs and plastrons worn by men in the last century and decided to revive it in a modern way, this time as a part of women garment.
How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
Designing was not a long process. I had a very clean picture in my head. So draw it, made a cut out of paper, tried several dimensions and that was it.
Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
Being an artist by proffesion, for me art is the way of living. I have the strong urge to design space around me, things I use or wear... These cuffs are just one of things I have designed to meet my estetic standards.
What made you design this particular type of work?
I have designed this because of a lack of stetement fashion details.
Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?
Being an artist by proffesion, the painter, my main tool is paper and pencil. I drew few sketches, than made a cut out of paper and than started making cuffs .
What is the most unique aspect of your design?
The uniqueness pf this design is that a piece of mans garment is used as womans jewelry.
What is the role of technology in this particular design?
Knowing contemporary materials is here more important than technology.
What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?
Chalenge was the LACK of technology i.e. trying to produce the designed item at home without any professional equippement.
How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?
I wear my cuffs a lot and they are both noticed and liked. I wanted to explore the opinion of professional audience.
What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?
Every new design is a new challenge because it puts new questions and new problems in front of the autor. Solving those problems improves the author himself.
