The miscea LIGHT range of sensor activated faucets have an integrated soap dispenser engineered directly into the faucet for convenience and maximum hand hygiene benefits. Using fast and reliable sensor technology, it dispenses soap and water for a über hygienic and ergonomic hand washing experience. The built in soap dispenser is activated when a user’s hand passes over the soap sector. Soap is then only dispensed when a user’s hand is placed under the soap outlet of the faucet. Water can be received intuitively by holding your hands under the water outlet.

Interview with Rob Langendijk on miscea LIGHT Sensor Faucet for bathrooms

What are your future plans for this award winning design?
Our future plans for this award winning design is commercialization.
How long did it take you to design this particular concept?
The entire development process of this design took just over 1 year to complete.
Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?
Based on extensive market research, we realised that a simple product was required for the mass market.
Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?
This design is currently being produced by miscea GmbH for commercialisation. The miscea LIGHT is currently being sold in Europe with intention to be available in the US, Asia Pacific, Middle East and other areas of the world.
Who is the target customer for his design?
The miscea LIGHT is designed to be used in public and private washrooms, therefore the target customer group for this design are private home owners, business owners, architects, interior designers, building developers and other professionals within the building industry.
What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?
The design of the miscea LIGHT is unique in that it has an integrated soap dispenser which eliminates the need for separate soap dispensers. The fact that it is operated completely touch free using advanced sensor technology means users do not have to touch the faucet at all. Currently there are no other products on the market which offers this 2 in 1 touch free solution for more a more convenient and hygienic hand washing experience.
How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?
Before the miscea LIGHT, we also produced the miscea CLASSIC system. This system had a much more complex user interface designed to be used by professionals within the medical field. Through market research, we realised that a less complicated user interface was needed if we wanted to enter different markets and so the miscea LIGHT was developed. The name LIGHT is a play on the fact that the use of LED lights is integrated in the user interface but also because it is a lighter, more simple version of the miscea CLASSIC system.
What is the most unique aspect of your design?
The most unique aspect of the miscea LIGHT design has to be the fact that it has an integrated soap dispenser. However, other aspects such as the sensor technology used, the general shape of the product or even the fact that it can be used with a remote control for personalized settings also add to its uniqueness.
Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?
The design of the miscea LIGHT would not have been possible without the dedicated team of miscea engineers and all our external partners.
