Cliches were printing plates engraved in wood or metal, used as a visual complement to the text in the letterpress printing process, but the book's title is also due to what's revealed in the illustrations. In each page, we run into other types of Brazilian cliches: historical ones, such as the arrival of the Portuguese, the catechizing of the native Indians, slavery or the coffee and gold economic cycles; and contemporary ones, such as traffic jams, closed condominiums and alienation.
